Heavily Armored Makes Megaton Implode Reusable

The mutation-only Heavily Armored passive changes Palworld's self-explosion skills from one-shot sacrifices into repeatable attacks. Here is what the data and player testing actually show.

Palworld's self-explosion skills are balanced around a brutal trade: land a huge burst, then lose the Pal that delivered it. Heavily Armored appears to break that bargain.

The mutation-only passive says it grants immunity to explosion damage. Player testing shared this week shows the important consequence: a Pal with Heavily Armored can use Implode or Megaton Implode without knocking itself out, then use the skill again after its normal cooldown.

Verified against Palworld ✓ v1.0.

What the combo actually does#

Heavily Armored
Explosion damage immunity
Passive rank
4
Implode
300 power, 16s cooldown
Megaton Implode
1,200 power, 60s cooldown

The underlying pieces are clear in the current extracted game data:

EffectTypePowerCooldownNormal drawback
Heavily ArmoredMutation passiveN/AN/ANone listed
ImplodeNeutral active skill30016 secondsUser becomes incapacitated
Megaton ImplodeNeutral active skill1,20060 secondsUser risks its life

The community discovery thread supplies the live interaction test. The data says the passive blocks explosion damage; the player test demonstrates that this includes the self-damage and self-knockout attached to these two skills.

Heavily Armored does not make Implode stronger. It makes surviving the attack part of the build.

The Megaton Implode route#

Tocotoco is the straightforward starting point because Megaton Implode is already part of its natural skill set.

The target is a Tocotoco that receives Heavily Armored through the new mutation system. This is not a normal passive you can simply select on a breeding calculator. It is mutation-only, so the setup begins by producing and stabilizing the passive.

  1. 1Start with the mutation system

Read the mutation guide so the passive-generation rules are clear.

  2. 2Target Heavily Armored

Use the mutation tool to plan the path rather than treating every mutation result as equal.

  3. 3Preserve a Tocotoco with Megaton Implode

The skill is the reason to use this Pal for the 1,200-power version.

  4. 4Confirm the passive on the finished Pal

The exact description should read "Immune to Explosion Damage."

  5. 5Test the build safely

Use a low-risk target first and verify the Pal remains active after Megaton Implode.

The last check matters because community testing can reveal a working interaction without promising that every edge case, server rule, or future patch will behave identically.

The flexible Implode route#

If you care more about repeatable self-explosion than the maximum single hit, the Implode Skill Fruit opens a broader experiment.

Requirements

Implode's 300 power is far below Megaton Implode's 1,200, but its 16-second cooldown is also much shorter than 60 seconds. A compatible Pal with Heavily Armored can therefore cycle the standard skill more often, assuming it survives enemy attacks between uses.

That distinction creates two different build identities:

RouteMain advantageMain limitation
Tocotoco plus Megaton ImplodeEnormous 1,200-power burst60-second cooldown and mutation setup
Heavily Armored Pal plus Implode fruitFlexible Pal choice and 16-second cooldownMuch lower 300 power

The Palworld 1.0 Skill Fruit tier list is useful for comparing the opportunity cost of the fruit slot. The combat overhaul guide provides the wider context for how active skills fit into current combat.

What Heavily Armored does not solve#

The passive's wording is narrow: explosion damage immunity. It is not general invulnerability.

A Pal can still take melee, projectile, elemental, environmental, or other non-explosion damage. A surviving Tocotoco may also remain close to the enemy after detonating, which means its position can be dangerous while Megaton Implode is on cooldown.

The passive also does not:

  1. Shorten the 16-second or 60-second cooldown.
  2. Increase the listed power of either skill.
  3. Guarantee the Pal survives damage from enemies during the attack.
  4. Turn every self-sacrifice partner skill into an explosion.

Those limits keep the discovery from becoming a universal answer to combat. It is a focused interaction that converts two specific attacks from disposable finishers into repeatable tools.

Where the build should be useful#

The obvious use is a burst opener. Send in Tocotoco, trigger Megaton Implode, then either withdraw it while the 60-second cooldown runs or keep it active if the battlefield is controlled.

The second use is a deliberately built rotation. Multiple Heavily Armored self-explosion Pals could stagger their cooldowns instead of all detonating at once. The community thread is already discussing that possibility, but it remains a team-building experiment rather than an established best composition.

The standard Implode route may be better for smaller targets or general play because 16 seconds is short enough to see repeated uses in one extended fight. Megaton Implode is the spectacle; Implode is the version that may be easier to integrate into a normal rotation.

  • Produce or obtain the Heavily Armored mutation
  • Keep Megaton Implode on Tocotoco for the maximum-power route
  • Use the Implode Skill Fruit only for the standard 300-power route
  • Test self-survival on a low-risk target
  • Plan around the full cooldown and non-explosion damage

This is exactly the kind of discovery Palworld's mutation system was built to create. A passive that looks defensive on paper can completely rewrite the intended cost of an active skill.
