Six words, two tags, one heart, and suddenly half the Palpagos Islands are shopping for warp fuel.
No Man's Sky creator Sean Murray has publicly called out Palworld publishing lead John "Bucky" Buckley after a report named No Man's Sky as one of Pocketpair's dream collaboration partners. Murray's message was not subtle: he called Bucky "bro" three times, stretched the last one into orbit, and added a heart.
That is a spectacularly effective way to start a rumor. It is not, however, a collaboration announcement.

Update: Bucky answered the call#
Updated August 19, 2026: Bucky has now replied, and he chose comedy over corporate boilerplate. In the first post, he quote-posted Murray and turned the whole "call me" energy into a deliberately overdramatic, Stan-themed request for Sean to write back. Two minutes later, he followed with the much shorter "My tea's gone cold..."
Bucky answers Sean with a lovingly dramatic request to call him back.
Bucky follows up two minutes later: "My tea's gone cold..."

The important part is not the lyric-inspired joke itself. It is that the public exchange is now mutual. Murray threw the signal toward Pocketpair, and Bucky answered it in the same playful register. That makes the possibility more fun and more visible, but it still does not confirm that a deal, design document, or development schedule exists.
What actually happened#
The spark came from a report about the sheer number of collaboration offers Palworld receives. According to GamesRadar's account of Bucky's Discord comments, Pocketpair has rejected or scrapped plenty of pitches because the team does not want to drop unrelated brands into Palworld just for the sake of it.
The same report said Pocketpair would be interested in working with Fortnite, ARK, and No Man's Sky. Gaming account Pirat_Nation summarized that discussion on X, pairing Palworld imagery with No Man's Sky key art. Murray then quote-posted it and repeatedly tagged Bucky.
At the time we checked, Murray's post had already passed 542,000 views and 16,000 likes. The reply section immediately became an unpaid crossover design meeting. One popular suggestion imagined a Pal planet in No Man's Sky with a World Tree so enormous that Travellers could see it from space.
The important distinction is simple. Murray publicly signaled interest and opened a direct line to Bucky in front of everyone. He did not say a deal exists, development has started, or either studio has approved a plan. This is closer to two developers yelling "call me" across the internet than a ship entering the atmosphere.
Why this pairing fits better than it sounds#
Both games already revolve around turning a strange world into a home. Players explore hostile biomes, gather resources, build bases, collect creatures, and gradually replace panic with industrial-scale competence. One game begins with a damaged starship. The other begins with a castaway on a beach. Give either player six hours and they will have a warehouse, a questionable labor system, and several beloved animals blocking a doorway.
The overlap became even harder to ignore in April 2026. Hello Games launched the Xeno Arena update, which lets Travellers collect, breed, train, genetically modify, and battle alien creatures. Sean Murray's official update post specifically named Palworld as one of the team's inspirations.
Palworld already has its own cosmic thread through Pals such as
Xenogard,
Selyne, and Astralym. The Palworld 1.0 launch also finally brought players to the World Tree, a location that looks ready-made for a distress signal from somewhere much farther away. If you need a refresher on the tree itself, our World Tree guide covers what Palworld 1.0 actually put there.
In other words, this crossover would not need to glue together two unrelated genres. Most of the connective tissue is already alive, collectible, and probably hungry.
The community has already built the pitch deck#
The r/Palworld discussion quickly split into two useful camps: the dreamers and the producers trying to keep the dreamers on budget.
The dream list is excellent:
- Space Pals, naturally. One reply distilled the mood to four words: "Space pals would be hype."
- A Xeno planet in No Man's Sky, paired with moon travel or a moon biome in Palworld.
- No Man's Sky armor sets, alien helmets, multitool-inspired equipment, and Sentinel-style enemies in Palworld.
- Pal companions aboard freighters or inside the Space Anomaly.
- A giant World Tree breaking the horizon as Travellers descend through a planet's atmosphere.
- Exotic No Man's Sky fauna appearing as rare visitors in Palworld.
Then came the necessary reality check. One commenter argued that players were imagining an entire expansion when game collaborations usually share a smaller set of models, items, creatures, or a themed dungeon. That is probably the right expectation to carry.
Past crossovers give us a useful range. Palworld's Tides of Terraria update delivered substantial collaboration content, while its ULTRAKILL crossover focused on collaboration items. No Man's Sky used its Beachhead expedition to bring the SSV Normandy SR1 from Mass Effect into players' fleets. None of those projects required either game to become a different genre.
Our best guess at a realistic crossover#
If this public flirtation ever turns into a real production plan, the cleanest version would be a two-sided event with one shared mystery.
In No Man's Sky: a Pal signal from an impossible world#
A limited-time expedition could send Travellers after unusual creature readings, ending on a handcrafted Pal-inspired planet. The reward does not need to be an entire Paldeck. A small companion roster, a Pal Sphere decoration, a Pal-themed starship trail, and one spectacular freighter collectible would be enough to make the Space Anomaly lose its mind.
The Xeno Arena makes this even easier to imagine. A Pal could arrive with elemental abilities, a fixed visual identity, and a special arena move without asking Hello Games to rebuild its creature systems.
In Palworld: a crashed Traveller expedition#
Palworld could answer with a compact alien dungeon or event island. Picture a crashed ship, geometric ruins, Sentinel-like security drones, low-gravity pockets, and a boss encounter built around a corrupted portal. Rewards could include a Traveller suit, a multitool-inspired weapon, base parts, and one new cosmic Pal.
This is where the existing Terraria collaboration is the better guide than fan hopes for full spaceflight. A strong dungeon, memorable enemies, collectible gear, and a few permanent surprises would feel substantial without pretending Pocketpair secretly built a galaxy simulator between patches.
The perfect final shot#
There is only one acceptable ending: a No Man's Sky Traveller standing on a distant moon, looking up as Palworld's World Tree glows across the curve of a planet.
Yes, we have already imagined the key art. Obviously.
So, is Palworld x No Man's Sky happening?#
Not officially. The honest answer on August 19, 2026 is that a collaboration is now publicly plausible, not publicly confirmed.
The signal is stronger than ordinary fan casting because both halves have now spoken into the same conversation. Bucky named No Man's Sky as a collaboration Pocketpair would welcome. Sean Murray saw that message, amplified it, tagged Bucky twice, and added a heart. Bucky then answered with two posts of his own. No Man's Sky also spent part of its tenth-anniversary year building a creature system that openly cites Palworld as inspiration.
That is enough to start watching both studios closely. It is not enough to start a countdown.
The portal is open. Nobody has entered the coordinates yet.
If either studio follows this increasingly elaborate bit with something concrete, we will update this story again. Until then, keep your Pal Sphere in one hand, your analysis visor in the other, and your expectations safely inside the atmosphere.
