Palworld v1.0.3 shipped on August 12, 2026, with several explicit cuts to progression friction. Water bases got dramatically cheaper, Jetragon-related technology moved nine levels earlier, Holy Water became easier to carry and source, and oil infrastructure lost much of its sting. Since patch day, players have also been filing reports about things the update did not touch, or that they believe it touched badly.
This audit keeps those two piles strictly separate, and it labels every claim by how it was verified. Pocketpair's official notes are one kind of evidence. A player report is a different, weaker kind. This audit did not launch the game: the runtime was unavailable, so nothing below is claimed as reproduced by PalMods. Official fixes are stated as official, community reports are stated as community-reported, and the gap between them is the whole point of the article.
The short version#
The official notes confirm real, specific grind cuts: the Aquatic Construction Kit moved from level 66 to level 23 and from four Ancient Technology Points to one, Jetragon-related technology moved from level 79 to 70 with cheaper riding gear, World Tree Holy Water is lighter, lasts longer, and has more sources, Fiber from trees doubled, and oil infrastructure got cheaper and faster. Those are Tier A facts, straight from Pocketpair.
Meanwhile, players have reported a queue of post-patch symptoms: accessories that may not apply after a Pal Box swap on dedicated servers, a Bellanoir skill that may not aim upward, base Pals that may ignore respawned trees, controller input switching to mouse mode, stutter on long sessions, and version mismatches across Xbox, Mac, and dedicated servers. Every one of those is Tier C: reported, unreproduced, and not officially confirmed. They are a testing queue, not a verdict on the patch.
First, what v1.0.3 fixed on paper#
Pocketpair's official v1.0.3 notes list the balance changes explicitly, so these carry the strongest evidence tier this audit uses.
The headline change is aquatic building. The official notes confirm the Aquatic Construction Kit dropped from level 66 to level 23, and its Ancient Technology cost fell from four points to one. If you shelved a water base as an endgame luxury, update and check your Technology tree, because it is now an early-midgame project.
Jetragon's unlock path moved too. Pocketpair's notes list the related technology dropping from level 79 to 70, with reduced materials for the riding gear. The notes do not say how a partially crafted saddle or an older save is handled, so check your own crafting queue after updating rather than assuming anything recalculated. For the exact material lists before and after, see our breakdown of the real before and after numbers.
Two more grind changes round out the set. World Tree Holy Water now lasts longer, weighs 0.1, and can come from expeditions, fishing, ponds, World Tree Pals, and the Teafant Spring rather than one farming loop. And the oil economy got a broad pass: cheaper extraction and power infrastructure, faster extractors, mission credit for high-pressure equipment, and doubled Fiber from chopping trees. We have not run a controlled time study, so we will not promise a measured hours-saved figure, but the direction of every change is downward on cost and upward on speed.
Beyond balance, the notes list large fix groups covering stability, Pal behavior, multiplayer, building, items, UI, sound, controls, and the map. Two entries matter for the reports below. First, the notes list summoned Pals stopping combat or base work as fixed: if you still see that exact symptom after updating and restarting your client or server, that is worth a fresh report rather than an assumption that the fix failed. Second, the notes list co-op lighting and stutter fixes, a dedicated-server Tower Boss travel fix, and a fix for Pal vibration on clients. Our full v1.0.3 patch notes coverage walks the complete list.
One caution cuts across all of it: an official fix bullet confirms that specific bullet. It does not confirm that every symptom in the same neighborhood is resolved, and this audit does not treat it that way.
What the evidence tiers mean#
Every claim in this audit carries one of three labels.
Tier A, official. Pocketpair explicitly lists the change or fix in its v1.0.3 announcement. This confirms the change exists in the patch. It does not verify any individual player's results with it.
Tier B, reproduced. An audit method was run in a live game and produced a result. There is no Tier B evidence in this article: the runtime was unavailable for this audit, and no reproduction is claimed anywhere below.
Tier C, community-reported. A player report or discussion is useful lead evidence, but reproduction is pending. A Tier C item is never called confirmed, widespread, or a game-wide defect here, because a report cannot establish any of those things on its own.
Community-reported issues still awaiting reproduction#
Everything in this section is Tier C. These reports are worth tracking because they are specific and testable, not because they are proven.
| Issue | Context | Tier | What is actually known | Safe next step |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Accessories may not apply after a Pal Box swap | Dedicated server, client platform unstated | C | A single report on a v1.0.3 server, with no reproduction or official confirmation | Community suggestion: unequip and re-equip the accessory |
| Bellanoir Nightmare Ray or Bloom may not aim upward | Dedicated server, hard-mode test flying on Faleris | C | One player's test; not proof the skill is broken game-wide | No sourced workaround; capture a clip if you can trigger it |
| Controller switching into mouse mode, missing Pal Box cursor | PC with controller | C | Reported by players; one says unplugging a mouse changed behavior, which is not a verified fix | Diagnostic only: test a single-input setup and record the exact devices for a bug report |
| Stutter that may worsen over long sessions | PC, mixed hardware | C | Speculative reports; not a confirmed memory leak | Record session length, hardware, settings, and logs |
| Base Pals may not chop respawned natural trees | PC base workforce, server type unstated | C | May be distinct from the official summoned-Pal work fix | Recheck task assignments, then report with before and after detail |
| Xbox client stuck on 1.0.2 and unable to join 1.0.3 servers | Xbox and Xbox Game Pass | C | Update-availability report; cloud gaming was mentioned but not validated | Check the title-screen build and storefront update state; do not uninstall or delete data |
| Server build behind the client | Dedicated or hosted servers | C | Mismatch reported, with a 1.0.3.101283 server build cited; a mismatch is not itself a broken server | Server owner updates and restarts, then both sides compare build strings |
| Steam download stuck at 0 percent | Steam on PC | C | A delivery stall, not evidence of a game defect, and not something that touches saves | Restart Steam, verify files, clear the download cache, or change download region |
| Flying mounts hovering above the ground | Steam on PC | C | A single report without corroboration at audit time | Community-noted detail: dismounting permits item pickup |
A few reports need more qualification than a table row allows.
Mac version skew. There was a time-bounded community report of the Mac App Store build sitting at 1.0.5 while Steam sat at 1.0.3, breaking crossplay between the two. Later reporting says the versions converged. This is not presented as a continuing Mac defect: if you hit a crossplay wall, compare exact version strings on both machines before assuming anything is broken.
The UE-PAL crash. A community-reported Unreal crash on a Steam PC with an Nvidia laptop GPU and no mods claimed has been circulating, but the report predates the v1.0.3 release and does not state its exact build. It cannot support any claim about v1.0.3 specifically. No sourced workaround is attached to this report. If you submit a similar report, preserve the save, record the exact build, and state whether mods were ever installed.
Official server crowding. Players on a North American official server have reported high-level bases and Pal Boxes blocking a starting area. This is a population and placement complaint, not a patch defect. Community suggestions include trying a solo world or a different server.
What to check before you panic#
Several post-patch reports in this ledger share one shape: two pieces of software on different builds, or a client that needed a clean restart. Before filing anything, run this list.
- Update the game on your actual storefront, then fully restart the client. On consoles, confirm the storefront shows no pending update, and check the build number on the title screen rather than trusting the store page.
- If you play multiplayer, confirm the server updated too. Co-op hosts and dedicated-server owners should update and restart, then both sides should compare build strings. A client on 1.0.3 talking to an older server explains a lot of strange behavior, and a mismatch is a configuration state, not a broken game. Dedicated-server owners can follow the official server documentation for the update procedure.
- On Xbox, if the update is not offered, check the title-screen build and the storefront update state, and wait it out or contact support. Do not uninstall or delete local data to force it: that risks your saves and is not an established fix.
- For a Steam download stuck at 0 percent, use the standard delivery steps: restart Steam, verify local files, clear the download cache, or change the download region. None of that repairs a save, and none of it is needed unless the download itself is stalled.
- If a symptom that the official notes list as fixed is still happening for you after all of the above, you are holding exactly the kind of report that is useful. File it fresh, with the details below.
How to report a useful bug#
The difference between a report that gets fixed and a report that gets buried is specificity. Whether you post it to the community or send it through Pocketpair's official bug report form, include all of this:
- Platform and storefront: Steam, Xbox, Game Pass, Mac App Store, and whether cloud gaming is involved.
- Exact versions: the game build from the title screen, and the full server build string if multiplayer is involved.
- World type: solo, co-op host or guest, dedicated server, or official server.
- Steps: what you did, what you expected, what happened instead, and whether it repeats.
- Save timing: whether the world predates v1.0.3 or was created after it.
- For performance reports: session length, hardware, graphics settings, and logs if you can get them.
- A short clip. Ten seconds of video settles arguments that ten paragraphs cannot.
This is a living audit. The Tier A section records what Pocketpair published. The Tier C section is a queue: as reproductions land, items will move up a tier or drop off the list entirely. Until then, v1.0.3 has clearly moved several grind walls, and the reports above are exactly what they are labeled as, leads awaiting testing, nothing more.
