The Palworld Surgery Table changes the best way to build a worker. Instead of breeding dozens of eggs just to line up Artisan, Work Slave, and Insomnia, you can install those passives on the Pal you already want to use.
There is one catch: the table unlocks at level 36. This is not a level 5 shortcut. It rewrites the early-to-midgame transition, because the workers you catch and breed before level 36 no longer need a perfect four-passive roll to remain useful later.

How to unlock the Surgery Table#
The Surgery Table costs three regular Technology Points at level 36. Build it inside a base, then interact with it while the Pal you want to modify is available. Palworld 1.0 also lets the table pull eligible items from base chests, so the required implant does not need to sit in your character inventory.
- Unlock level
- 36
- Technology Points
- 3
- Budget worker setup
- 30,000 Gold
- Artisan worker setup
- 80,000 Gold
- Maximum listed work-speed gain
- 155%
The implant requirement is easy to misunderstand. An implant is a reusable key item that unlocks a passive as a Surgery Table selection. It is not consumed when you modify a Pal. Once the Artisan Implant is unlocked, you can use it on worker after worker and pay only the listed gold cost each time.
Best Surgery Table passives for base workers#
| Passive | Effect | Gold cost | Implant needed? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Serious | Work Speed +20% | 10,000 | No |
| Work Slave | Work Speed +30%, Attack -30% | 10,000 | No |
| Insomnia | Does not sleep and works at night | 10,000 | No |
| Artisan | Work Speed +50% | 50,000 | Yes |
| Remarkable Craftsmanship | Work Speed +75% | 100,000 | Yes |
The best cheap level 36 setup is Serious + Work Slave + Insomnia. It costs 30,000 Gold, adds 50% Work Speed, and keeps the Pal active overnight. That is enough to turn a merely good species into a dependable base specialist without touching the Breeding Farm.
Add Artisan and the same worker reaches 100% bonus Work Speed plus night work for 80,000 Gold total. The maximum pure-production combination is Remarkable Craftsmanship + Artisan + Work Slave + Insomnia, which totals 155% bonus Work Speed and costs 170,000 Gold per Pal after both implant selections are available.
Why Artisan changes breeding priorities#
Before the Surgery Table, a perfect worker usually meant breeding until four compatible passives landed on the same offspring. Every species change could restart that process. A better miner, a new electric Pal, or a faster crafter often needed its own inheritance chain.
The table makes common worker passives portable. That changes the order of operations:
- 1Choose the best species for the job
Work Suitability level and base skill set still determine what the Pal can do.
- 2Catch or breed a strong individual
Prioritize species, stats, active skills, and any passive the table cannot install.
- 3Install the free-selection passives
Serious, Work Slave, and Insomnia cost gold but do not require implants.
- 4Unlock the Artisan implant
Buy it once for 15 Bounty Tokens, then reuse it across your workforce.
- 5Replace only the weakest passive slot
Keep any rare or build-defining passive that breeding already delivered.
You can buy the Artisan Implant from Bounty Officers for 15 Bounty Tokens. The full Artisan implant guide lists the confirmed officer locations and the passive's current data.
When conventional breeding still wins#
The Surgery Table is deterministic, but it is not a complete replacement for breeding. Eggs still win in five important situations.
- Getting a species early: A breeding combination can produce a Pal that is difficult or dangerous to catch at your current level.
- Building better base stats: Passive surgery does not replace the value of high HP, Attack, and Defense rolls.
- Inheriting active skills: A planned parent chain can pass useful combat skills to an offspring.
- Chasing Mutation and special traits: Palworld 1.0 expanded breeding with Mutation and additional passives. Those systems still reward deliberate parent selection.
- Keeping implant-locked passives early: Until an implant is obtained, breeding can deliver a passive that the table cannot yet select.
The efficient hybrid is simple: breed the hardest thing to reproduce, then operate on the easy slots. If an offspring already has a rare passive, excellent stats, or the exact active skill you want, stop rerolling the entire build just because it missed Serious.
Breed the identity of the Pal. Use surgery to finish the job.
The new best worker progression#
At low levels, catch Pals with the right Work Suitabilities and use any helpful passives that appear naturally. Do not spend hours forcing a perfect four-passive line for every temporary worker.
At level 36, build one Surgery Table and standardize the workers that will survive into late game. Start with the 30,000 Gold Serious, Work Slave, and Insomnia package. Add Artisan first to the Pals occupying your biggest bottlenecks, usually crafting, mining, electricity generation, or medicine production.
Late game, reserve expensive Remarkable Craftsmanship surgery for permanent specialists. A 100,000 Gold modification is excellent on a final worker with top Work Suitability, but wasteful on a Pal you expect to replace.
- Build the Surgery Table at level 36
- Install Serious, Work Slave, and Insomnia on a protected worker
- Earn 15 Bounty Tokens for the reusable Artisan Implant
- Keep breeding for species, stats, skills, Mutation, and rare passives
- Save Remarkable Craftsmanship for permanent specialists
