How to Get Astegon

Fly to [-689, -110] and fight the level 55 field boss in the volcanic sanctuary. It is the only Astegon in the game outside a 1 in 72 World Tree lottery.

The one place Astegon is waiting for you

A single level 55 field boss, in the volcanic sanctuary on the main island. The nearest named landmark, the Ruined Fortress City, sits three quarters of a kilometre away, so fly in on the pin rather than the label.

The route
1Wear heat gear before you flyThe arena sits in the volcanic sanctuary. Heat Resistant armour is the difference between a fight and a slow death by ambient damage, and the sanctuary guards will already be on you.Volcanic sanctuary, main island
2Bring Ice, and Dragon if you have itAstegon is Dragon and Dark. Ice answers the Dragon half and Dragon answers the Dark half. Ice is the better single pick because it covers the fight from the opening move.Weak to Ice and Dragon
3Fight it at night or expect a chaseIt is nocturnal and it flies. Keep a flying mount saddled so a retreating boss does not reset the fight on you, and clear the guards before you start rather than during.Nocturnal, and it flies
4Throw Giga Spheres and stop the overkillRarity 9 at level 55 is past what a Mega Sphere reliably holds. Take it well below half, put the party on passive so nothing finishes it, then throw. Legendary Spheres are overkill at this level.Rarity 9, level 55

104 pairs make an Astegon

The cheapest pair the model finds is Blazamut with Celesdir at about level 54, one level below the boss. Breeding is worth it only to choose the level and the passives, since the boss is fixed at 55 and costs one flight.

No egg pool contains it

No egg pool contains Astegon in Palworld 1.0. The Huge Dragon Egg World Tree pools lead to Silvegis instead, not to this Pal.

The 21 World Tree points are a 1 in 72 roll

Astegon's only World Tree presence is 21 points on one aura spawner shared by 72 Pals at equal weight. Each roll is 1 in 72, and Celesdir, Silvegis and Kingpaca carry the same coordinates. There is nowhere in that region to stand and wait.

LevelCorrected
It is level 55, not level 48

Older material places Astegon in the Destroyed Mineshaft at level 48 near [-576, -421]. In Palworld 1.0 there is exactly one field boss for it, in the volcanic sanctuary at [-689, -110], level 55. Plan the fight for 55.

Lv 55, confirmed1 field boss totalShow this boss on the map
Astegon is nocturnal and it flies, which is a bad combination for an unprepared fight. Bring a flying mount so a boss that backs off over the lava does not reset your progress on it.
The 1,100 percent ore damage figure is a mount effect, not a base effect. Put Astegon in a base and you get Mining 7, which is strong but ordinary. The reason to keep it in the party is that ore nodes stop taking multiple passes.
Its drop table is a World Tree relic table plus Plasteel and a Large Pal Soul. The level 55 boss is the same Pal, so read that list as what an Astegon can give rather than as a payout for the fight.
Why bother
Astegon is the best ore mount in the game. Black Ankylosaur increases the damage you deal to ores by 1,100 percent and gives 150 percent more Ore while you ride it, and it flies, so you can clear a node field without landing. In a base it is Mining 7 with Handiwork 3, and it drops a Large Pal Soul and 10 to 20 Dragon Radiant Gem.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where is Astegon in Palworld 1.0?

One field boss at [-689, -110], inside the volcanic sanctuary on the main island, fixed at level 55. There is no ordinary wild spawn to hunt for anywhere.

Is the Astegon boss level 48?

Not in 1.0. Older material describes a level 48 Astegon in the Destroyed Mineshaft. There is a single field boss for it now, in the volcanic sanctuary, at level 55, so come prepared for 55.

Can you hatch Astegon from a Huge Dragon Egg?

No. Astegon is in zero egg pools. The Yamijima Huge Dragon Egg pools lead to Silvegis instead.

What is Astegon weak to?

It is Dragon and Dark, so Ice hits the Dragon half and Dragon hits the Dark half. Ice is the better single answer because it applies from the opening move rather than only against half its typing.

Is Astegon worth catching?

For ore, yes, and by a wide margin. Riding it multiplies your damage to ore nodes by 1,100 percent and yields 150 percent more Ore, and it flies, so a node field can be cleared without dismounting.
