Dumud: Location and How to Get It

Walk the volcano coastline. Two of its four coastal tables give Dumud 21 of 22 selection weight at levels 20 to 24, so almost every roll there is a Dumud.

Every Dumud spawn on the main island

Dumud is common, and that is exactly why the heat misleads. The biggest cluster sits on a table where it holds 50 of 803 weight, while the thin coastal strings around the volcano are nearly guaranteed.

The route
1Walk the coastline, not the inland heatFour coastal tables ring the volcano and every one of them is Dumud plus one or two others. Two carry nothing but Dumud and Dumud Gild, which puts Dumud at 21 of 22 weight, so a roll there is a Dumud roughly nineteen times in twenty.95.45 percent, Lv 20 to 24
2Bring Grass, and only a little of itDumud is Ground and Water, so Grass answers the Ground half and Electric the Water half. It is rarity 4 and slow, which means the danger is killing it rather than losing to it.Weak to Grass and Electric
3Pal Spheres are enough at this levelThe coastal bands run levels 20 to 28 and the Twilight Dunes band reaches 37. Mega Spheres only become worth carrying if you are catching in the desert rather than on the coast.Lv 20 to 28 on the coast
4Take the level 14 alpha if you want one earlyThe single field boss sits at [-310, 4] on the Isle of Murmurs. It is the earliest Dumud on the map and it respawns on server restart, so a failed attempt costs you nothing but the walk back.Lv 14, 1 field boss
5Put it on a Ranch, not in a fightDumud is a Ranch worker: it produces High Quality Pal Oil while assigned, and every catch drops one on top of two Raw Dumud. Two or three of them keep a base in oil indefinitely.High Quality Pal Oil x1 per catch

The F River common pool

Dumud takes 94 of 297 weight on the F River common pool at levels 34 to 37, on Normal difficulty, with another 5 weight for the alpha version. That is roughly one cast in three, standing still, with no fight at all.

Rocky Egg, two guaranteed nests

The Bamboo Groves and Mount Obsidian common Rocky Egg pools each hold exactly one outcome and it is Dumud, at both Rocky and Large Rocky size. Every egg from either nest is a Dumud.

Ravine Grotto and Volcanic Cavern

The Ravine Grotto fields Dumud as boss and mid boss, an alpha at levels 17 to 19 and pairs at 14 to 17. The Volcanic Cavern does the same at 36 to 38. Four guaranteed rolls between them, without walking a coastline.

Dumud Gild shares these spawners

The Gild form sits on the same coastal tables at 1 weight against Dumud 21, so roughly one coastal roll in 22 is the gold one. It fills Paldeck 109B and doubles Gold Coin drops, so it is worth knowing you are already farming for it.

Paldeck 109 against 109B1 in 22 on the same coastHow to get Dumud Gild
The shares here are selection weights, not observed catch rates. Dumud appears twice on each coastal table, once at weight 20 and once at weight 1, so the honest denominator is the sum of every entry on the spawner rather than one entry of it.
The 102 point cluster inland is the trap. It draws on a table where Dumud holds 50 of 803 weight against four Pals at 150 each, so it produces about one Dumud every 16 spawns while a coastal string produces one almost every time.
Do not overkill. Dumud is slow and squishy for its level, and a mid game party clears a level 20 one before you can throw. Bring something around its level or use an Electric Pal that cannot finish a target.
Why bother
Soil Improver raises the Attack of every Ground Pal in your party by 15 percent, which is the cheapest party buff a Ground team can carry this early. The real job is the Ranch: assigned there, Dumud produces High Quality Pal Oil, the bottleneck material behind every refined weapon and most of the mid game tech tree.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where does Dumud spawn in Palworld 1.0?

Across 428 mapped points. The best ground is the coastline around the volcano, where two tables give Dumud 21 of 22 selection weight at levels 20 to 24. The largest inland cluster gives it 50 of 803.

Where is the Dumud alpha?

At [-310, 4] on the Isle of Murmurs, at level 14. It is the only field boss Dumud has and the earliest one in the game. The Ravine Grotto also fields a cave alpha at levels 17 to 19.

Which egg hatches a Dumud?

Rocky Eggs. The Bamboo Groves and Mount Obsidian common pools hold exactly one outcome each and it is Dumud, at both Rocky and Large Rocky size, so every egg from those nests is a guaranteed hatch.

What is Dumud good for?

High Quality Pal Oil. Assigned to a Ranch it produces it on a timer, and every catch drops one as well. Soil Improver also gives Ground Pals in your party 15 percent more Attack.

Can you fish up a Dumud?

Yes. The F River common pool gives it 94 of 297 weight at levels 34 to 37 on Normal difficulty, and a medium shadow pond can produce one from level 16. Fishing is the no combat route.
