Nitewing: Location and How to Get It

Catch one on open ground at levels 12 to 16 rather than fighting the level 18 boss. It is the first flying mount most players reach, and 8 of its points sit on a Nitewing-only table.

The first flying mount you can reach

Every mapped Nitewing is on the main island at levels 12 to 16, plus one level 18 field boss. The three densest clusters are wide and open, which suits a Pal that fights in the air and runs when it is losing.

The route
1Fly to [308, -326] before [-184, -461]Marsh Island holds 54 points against the Palpagos cluster 105, but the tables underneath are better. Most of the Palpagos pins are a 1.95 percent roll and the Marsh Island ground runs closer to 9 percent.9 percent against 1.95 percent
2Bring Dark damage and something rangedNitewing is pure Neutral, so Dark is the only element with a bonus. It fights from the air, which means a melee build spends the fight watching it circle. A bow is enough at this level.Neutral, weak to Dark
3Ground it, then throwA sphere thrown at an airborne Nitewing is a lost sphere. Take it under half health so it drops, put your own Pals on passive, then throw. A plain Pal Sphere at capture power 7 is the correct tier for levels 12 to 16.Overkill loses the catch
4Take the level 18 boss if the roll dragsOne field boss at [-276, -70], six levels above the open ground and always there. It respawns on server restart, so a failed attempt costs the flight back and nothing else.Lv 18, guaranteed, respawns
5Saddle it and stop walkingNitewing is rideable and its partner skill, Travel Companion, is the mount itself. For most players this is the first flying mount they own, which changes how every other guide on this site is read.Flying mount from level 12

One level 18 field boss, and it is the only guaranteed one

The single Nitewing boss sits at [-276, -70], six levels above open ground, and it is the only encounter in the game that is certain to be a Nitewing. It respawns on server restart. Take it when the wild roll has worn you down, or when you want a higher base level to work from.

Nitewing is 16.67 percent among 6 outcomes on the marsh and forest pool of the Common Egg, and 10 percent among 10 in the Windswept Hills pool. That is unusually broad coverage for the most basic egg in the game, and the marsh pool is the better half by a wide margin.

One Hunter camp fields a Nitewing

A single Nitewing sits in Hunter camp 01-02, with no level recorded. One Pal in one camp is worth knowing if you are already raiding it, and it is not a reason to go.

Cavern of the Dunes alpha, 20 levels later

The desert cavern fields Nitewing only as an alpha, at levels 37 to 40, as boss and mid boss on a table where it holds 10 of 80 weight against 7 other Pals. There are no ordinary Nitewing spawns in any dungeon, so this is a way to get a high level one rather than a way to get one at all.

The biggest cluster is the worst odds. 88 of the 226 points sit on a spawner group where Nitewing holds 10 of 512 selection weight, so a map covered in pins around Palpagos is a map of other Pals with a Nitewing occasionally mixed in.
Eight points belong to a group with one Pal on its roster, and that Pal is Nitewing. It is a small cluster, but when one of those fires there is nothing else it can be.
Nitewing drops Leather and nothing else. If you are farming for a saddle it pays 1 to 3 per defeat, and the field boss is the same Pal, so the drop list does not change for the alpha.
Why bother
Nitewing is transport. Travel Companion makes it a flying mount and that is the whole partner skill, with no gloves, no cooldown and no charge. Everything else is small: Gathering level 2 at a base, and Leather at 1 to 3 per defeat, which is the only thing it drops.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where does Nitewing spawn in Palworld 1.0?

On the main island at levels 12 to 16, densest at [-184, -461] near Palpagos with 105 points and [308, -326] on Marsh Island with 54. The one field boss is at [-276, -70].

Is Nitewing the first flying mount in Palworld?

For most players, yes. Travel Companion is the whole partner skill, it needs no gloves or unlock beyond the saddle, and open ground puts a Nitewing in reach at level 12.

Where is the Nitewing alpha boss?

At [-276, -70], the nearest map label we carry being Isle of Murmurs. It is level 18, it is the only guaranteed Nitewing in the game, and it comes back on server restart.

Why is the biggest Nitewing cluster the slowest one?

Because 88 of its 226 points are on a spawner group where it holds 10 of 512 weight, about 1 roll in 51. Four of its other five groups run near 9 percent, so a smaller cluster is usually the faster trip.

Which egg hatches a Nitewing?

The Common Egg, on both grass pools. The marsh and forest routes give 16.67 percent among 6 outcomes, the Windswept Hills 10 percent among 10, and the Large Common Egg carries an alpha version at much longer odds.
