Palumba has 57 mapped points and the largest patch is not the best one. The tropical island table gives it 37.5 percent of the roll at levels 32 to 38, the lowest band it has.

The Sakurajima cave fields Palumba as its boss twice over: one alpha at levels 47 to 49, and a pair of ordinary ones at 40 to 45. Those are the highest level Palumba in the game and the only guaranteed ones.

The cheapest pair is Helzephyr with Mammorest, which needs level 26, six levels below the wild band. That is not enough of a saving to skip a hunt for, but it is the only way to choose the level and the passives.

There is no field boss for Palumba anywhere on the map, no enemy camp that fields one, no raid tier and no fishing pool. Wild ground, the cave boss and eggs are the whole list.

◆The shares here are selection weights, not observed catch rates. They are why 28 points in the desert is worse ground than 7 points on the tropical island: the desert table is choosing between six Pals each time it fills a point, and the island table between three.
◆Palumba is in the Large Verdant Egg and Huge Verdant Egg pools for the Desiccated Desert nests only, so a Verdant Egg picked up in the starting grass will never be one.
◆Oasis Isle is worth the flight only if you want a high level Palumba. The table there is a slightly worse roll than the Isle of Eternal Summer and the band is 8 to 12 levels higher, which costs you Giga Spheres for no better odds.
Why bother
Samba Step makes Palumba a mount whose Movement Speed rises 155 percent on grass, which is the fastest ground travel you can own at this point in the game. On a base it is Mining 5, with Planting 4 and Gathering 4 behind it, and every catch drops Hardwood plus Onion and Carrot Seeds at 100 percent.
