Whalaska: Location, Breeding and Drops

Run the Astral Mountains caverns at level 42. Whalaska shares that spawner table with Polapup and no one else, so roughly every second Pal down there is the one you came for.

Where Whalaska actually turns up

Twenty-two mapped points and nothing wasted. Fifteen of them are the Astral Mountains cavern table at levels 42 to 44, seven are the Isle of the Glacial Core at levels 50 to 60, and a fixed level 55 field boss sits in the ocean between them.

1Fly to the Astral Mountains and find a cavernThe cavern spawner at [-241, 367] runs levels 42 to 44. Bring cold protection for the trip in, because the mountains do more damage on the way than the Pal does inside.15 of its 22 mapped points
2Bring Electric damage, not FireWhalaska is Ice and Water. Fire covers the Ice half and Electric covers the Water half, and Electric is the better single answer because it also handles the Pals sharing the cave with it.Ice and Water, weak to Fire and Electric
3Weaken it and throw an Ultra SphereRarity 8 at level 42 is a poor target for anything smaller. Put your team on passive before the final hit, because Whalaska has enough health that an overkill is easy to miss coming.Rarity 8, levels 42 to 44
4If the cave comes up empty, take the bossThe field boss at [-179, 842] is fixed at level 55, sits in open water near the ice, and respawns on server restart. It costs nothing to fail, which is what makes it the reliable fallback.Fixed level 55, respawns

The earliest Whalaska in the game is on a fishing line

Whalaska is on nine separate fishing tables. One of them, `Spot_01`, runs levels 25 to 30 at Normal difficulty and gives it 10 of the 100 weight across the Pals in that table, which is 17 levels below any other route it has. Which of the 469 mapped fishing spots runs that lottery is not known, so it is not marked on the map. On the ocean tables it is far better placed, at 94 weight of 396 against only three other Pals.

BreedingDo this for passives
635 pairs, the largest pair list in this batch

More pairs land on Whalaska than on any other Pal in this batch, and the cheapest is about level 38, four levels under the cavern hunt. That is close enough that it comes down to what you want: a bred Whalaska carries the level and passives you chose, and a cavern one does not.

The 21 World Tree points are a 1 in 72 roll

There are also 21 points in the World Tree region at level 80. All 21 sit on one aura spawner shared by 72 Pals at equal weight, so a roll there is 1 in 72 and 71 other Pals carry the identical coordinates. Not a population, and not a place to hunt.

No egg contains it

Whalaska appears in zero egg pools, so the Large Frozen Egg it is often credited to will not produce one. Its Ignis variant is the Pal that sits in a frozen egg pool, at 31.2 percent of the World Tree Huge Frozen Egg.

Twenty-two points is a small map and very good odds. Whalaska is 50 percent of the Astral Mountains cavern roll and 40 percent of the Isle of the Glacial Core roll, which beats every Feybreak Pal in this batch on findability while looking far worse on a point count.
Its 21 World Tree points at level 80 are the shared aura table, 1 in 72 per roll, and every other Pal on that table records the same coordinates. Do not plan a trip around them.
The fishing skill does not stack, so a second Whalaska in the party is wasted. Whalaska Ignis carries the same skill at 7 percent instead of 5, and the two are different Pals for that purpose.
Why bother
Whalaska is a fishing mount. You ride it, it works Cooling at level 6 and Watering at level 5, and its partner skill raises the starting capture gauge and the overlap progress on every fishing minigame by 5 percent. It also drops 10 to 20 Ice Radiant Gems, which is a serious awakening supply.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where do you find Whalaska in Palworld 1.0?

The Astral Mountains caverns at [-241, 367] from level 42, the Isle of the Glacial Core at [133, 658] from level 50, and a fixed level 55 field boss at [-179, 842] in open water.

Is Whalaska rare with only 22 spawn points?

No. It shares the cavern table with Polapup at equal weight, so about half of what spawns there is a Whalaska, and it holds 40 percent of the island table. Very few Pals with hundreds of points do that well per roll.

Can you catch Whalaska by fishing?

Yes, and it is the earliest route it has. It sits on a Normal difficulty fishing table at levels 25 to 30, and on the ocean tables at 94 weight of 396. Which mapped fishing spots run those lotteries is not known.

Does a Large Frozen Egg hatch into Whalaska?

No. Whalaska is in zero egg pools. The frozen egg that does contain a whale is the Huge Frozen Egg in the World Tree pool, and it gives Whalaska Ignis at 31.2 percent.

Is Whalaska worth catching for fishing?

Yes if you fish at all. It starts the minigame with 5 percent more capture gauge and adds 5 percent more progress while the bars overlap, on top of being a rideable Cooling 6 worker.
