Step one

One fixed fight, and a whole island of the hard way

The level 38 field boss is the answer, and it sits a long way from the Sakurajima spawns. Both are on this map so you can see the difference: one pin at level 38, and 83 mapped points that all start at 53.

The route
1Fly to [449, -51]The boss stands on the eastern side of the main island map, well away from Sakurajima. One fixed encounter, level 38, and nothing else Wumpo Botan does is this cheap.Main island, 1 field boss
2Bring Fire damageWumpo Botan is pure Grass, so Fire is the only element with a bonus against it. It is also a mount sized body, so a Fire Pal shortens the fight far more than a better sphere does.Grass, weak to Fire
3Expect the Ground immunity to matterIts partner skill tells you what it resists: Ground damage and the Muddy status. Bringing a Ground Pal to this fight is the common mistake, and it turns a short fight into a long one.Do not bring Ground damage
4Throw Giga Spheres from low healthGiga tier is right for a level 38 alpha. Put your team on passive before the last chunk of health so a Fire Pal does not finish it for you.Overkill loses the catch
5If you lose, fly straight backField bosses respawn on server restart, or about an hour on a solo world. Nothing is consumed by failing, which is what makes this cheaper than either the level 53 hunt or a Cake.No slab, no cake, no timer

83 points on Sakurajima, all level 53 plus

There are 83 mapped points at levels 53 to 55 across two Sakurajima clusters, at 20.62 and 17.09 percent of their tables. Perfectly catchable, and 15 levels past a boss that never moves.

576 pairs, and it is still not the answer

More pairs produce this Pal than any other in this batch, but the cheapest lands around level 42 against a level 38 boss. Breed it when you want a chosen level or passive set, not to save time.

The 21 World Tree points are a 1 in 72 roll

There are 21 points in the World Tree at level 80. They all sit on one aura spawner shared by 72 Pals at equal weight, so a roll there is 1 in 72 and Wumpo, Kingpaca and Blazamut carry the same coordinates. Not a population.

The base form Wumpo has no field boss at all, so this variant is the easier of the two to obtain despite sitting at Paldeck 134B. That is the reverse of how regional variants usually go.
Its partner skill grants immunity to the Muddy status, not resistance to it. That matters on Sakurajima and around Ground element bosses, where Muddy is the mechanic doing the damage rather than the hits.
Do not confuse the level 38 boss with the Sakurajima spawns. They are 15 levels apart, and a guide that gives you only the island coordinates is sending you to the harder half of the same Pal.
Why bother
Wumpo Botan is a mount that carries a defensive aura: while it is in the party you and your Pals take 15 percent less Ground damage and are immune to the Muddy status outright. At base it runs Transporting 6 and Lumbering 5, and it drops Hardwood 2 to 5 every time.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where is Wumpo Botan in Palworld 1.0?

The level 38 field boss stands at [449, -51] on the main island and is the easiest one to get. Its wild population is elsewhere entirely, 83 points on Sakurajima at levels 53 to 55.

What level should I be for the Wumpo Botan boss?

Around 35 with Giga Spheres and a Fire Pal. It is Grass, so Fire is the only element with a bonus, and the boss respawns on server restart if the first attempt goes badly.

Is Wumpo Botan harder to get than Wumpo?

No, it is easier. Wumpo has no field boss anywhere and starts at level 45 in the Astral Mountains, while Wumpo Botan has a fixed level 38 encounter.

Is there a special breeding combo for Wumpo Botan?

There is no unique pair. 576 combinations produce one, which is more than any other Pal in this range, and the cheapest of them still sits above the level 38 boss.

What does Guardian of the South do?

While Wumpo Botan is in the party, you and your Pals take 15 percent less Ground damage and cannot be afflicted with Muddy. It does not stack, so a second one adds nothing.
