Kelpsea: Location, Breeding and Drops

Swim the coast and rivers of the starting islands from level 9. Three of its spawner tables carry no other Pal at all, so 58 of its 159 points can only ever roll a Kelpsea.

Where the water is only ever Kelpsea

Every mapped Kelpsea is on the main island, in shallow coastal water and river mouths at levels 9 to 14. Three of the seven spawner groups behind these points are single-entry tables, which is why this is one of the few Pals the map is genuinely honest about.

1Fly to [-14, -392] and follow the water lineThe shoreline below Autumn Rocks. 47 of the 159 mapped points are in this one cluster, and the water is shallow enough to fight from the bank.47 of 159 points
2Know which water cannot disappoint youThree spawner groups list Kelpsea and nothing else, covering 58 points. When one of those fires there is no roll to lose. The mixed coastal tables run 21 to 25 percent, which is still generous by the standards of this game.58 points at 100 percent of the table
3Bring Electric damage, then hold backKelpsea is pure Water, so Electric is the one element with a bonus. The bigger risk at this level is the opposite problem: a rarity 1 Pal in the low teens dies to an overtuned party long before you get a sphere out.Water, weak to Electric
4Throw a plain Pal SphereCapture power 7 is the right tier for levels 9 to 14 and there is no reason to spend a Mega Sphere here. Put your own Pals on passive before the throw.Capture power 7 is enough
5Take the Ravine Grotto spawns if you want an alphaThe Grass002 Ravine Grotto fields Kelpsea as both a boss and a mid boss: 2 to 3 ordinary ones at levels 14 to 17, or a single alpha at 17 to 19. It holds 10 of that table 140 weight against 13 other Pals, so it is a 1 in 14 roll per run.Alpha at Lv 17 to 19, 1 in 14

The most common thing in a river

Kelpsea sits at weight 94 on every River Common table, from the starting routes at levels 9 to 16 through to the C routes at 18 to 22, all at Easy difficulty. Ocean Common tables give it 23.5. The Rare tables give it 0.4, which is the point worth knowing: a rare fishing spot is a worse place to look for one, not a better one.

Damp Egg, and the marsh routes are the better pool

The Damp Egg gives Kelpsea 25 percent among 4 outcomes on the marsh and forest route pool, and 15.38 percent among 7 in the Windswept Hills. The Large Damp Egg carries it as an alpha at much longer odds. Eggs are a passive supply rather than a route, since you have to walk past one to pick it up.

57 pairs, and every one of them costs more than a swim

The Breeding Farm is technology 19, paid for with 2 Ancient Technology Points from a tower boss, and each egg wants a Cake on top. That is a level 19 route to a Pal that is standing in the water at level 9. Breed one only when you want specific passives on a Ranch worker.

Kelpsea Ignis is a different Pal

Paldeck 43B is Fire where this one is Water, so it counters the opposite half of the chart and fills its own Paldeck slot. Catching one does nothing for this entry, and it does not swim in the same water.

Paldeck 43 and 43BFire, not WaterHow to get Kelpsea Ignis
The main island band reads as levels 9 to 17, and the top of that range is the Ravine Grotto spawns. Every open-water group stops at 14, so plan a shoreline trip for the low teens and a cave trip if you want the higher band.
Alpha Kelpsea exist on almost every fishing table, always at weight 5 against the common entry 94, and in the small fish pond at 0.05 against 1. They are a bonus for fishing anyway, not something to fish for.
The catch is fragile rather than dangerous. Rarity 1 with no field boss anywhere in the game means the only way to lose a Kelpsea is to kill it, usually with a party Pal you forgot to stand down.
Why bother
Kelpsea is a Ranch Pal first. Its partner skill, Aqua Spout, raises the Attack of every Water Pal in your party by 15 percent, and a second Kelpsea adds nothing to the first. On a Ranch it produces Aquatic Pal Fluids on its own, which is the reason most bases keep one long after the party slot goes to something bigger. Work suitability is Watering 1 and Farming 1.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where does Kelpsea spawn in Palworld 1.0?

In shallow coastal water and river mouths on the main island, densest at [-14, -392] below Autumn Rocks with 47 points, then [-209, -443] and [-237, -605] with 29 and 26.

What level is a wild Kelpsea?

9 to 14 on open water. The 14 to 17 and 17 to 19 bands are the Ravine Grotto dungeon encounters, where the higher one is an alpha.

Can you fish up a Kelpsea?

Yes, and it is the single most common thing in a river. It carries weight 94 on every River Common table from the starting routes onward, at Easy difficulty. Rare fishing tables give it 0.4, so they are worse odds, not better.

Which egg hatches a Kelpsea?

The Damp Egg. The marsh and forest route pool is the better one at 25 percent among 4 outcomes, against 15.38 percent among 7 in the Windswept Hills pool.

What is Kelpsea actually for?

A Ranch slot. It produces Aquatic Pal Fluids on its own, and in the party its Aqua Spout gives every Water Pal 15 percent more Attack. A second Kelpsea does not stack with the first.
