Not the desert. Every open-ground Rayhound is in the snow at the Foot of the Astral Mountains from level 31, or in the Feybreak forest from level 52.

The desert cavern fields Rayhound as both a boss and a mid boss alpha at levels 37 to 40. That is two guaranteed alpha rolls per run, and it is the only guaranteed encounter this Pal has: it owns no field boss.

Rayhound Cryst is a different Pal

The Cryst form fills Paldeck 98B and is pure Ice with Cooling 3 instead of Generating Electricity 4. It shares the same snow region at levels 35 to 38, and it is bred from this one with a Foxcicle.

◆Some guides put Rayhound in the Desiccated Desert, around Duneshelter and the sand dunes. There is no open-ground desert spawn for it at all. What the desert does carry is the Cavern of the Dunes alpha and a Large Electric Egg pool, so that advice is half right and it sends you to the wrong half.
◆The two snow groups sit at 16 and 17.7 percent, the two Feybreak groups at 12.4 percent, so the cheapest ground is also the most productive, which is unusual.
◆Generating Electricity 4 is the whole base contribution. Rayhound has no second work suitability at any level, so it is a generator Pal and a mount, and nothing else.
Why bother
Lightning Shepherd is the only mount in this stretch of the Paldeck that can double jump, which turns cliffs and broken snow terrain into a straight line. Its speed also rises 5 percent for every other Electric Pal in your party. On a base it is a single job Pal: Generating Electricity 4 and nothing else, so it goes on a generator and stays there.
