Skutlass: Location, Breeding and Drops

Fly to the Twilight Dunes coast at [-150, -74]. The spawner there has exactly one Pal on its roster, so every spawn at those 20 points is a Skutlass, at levels 30 to 34.

The coast where nothing else spawns

Skutlass has only two patches in the game and both of them are close to private. The coastal one has a single Pal on its spawner roster, and the sky island one has two. Read the pins for the shares rather than the point counts.

The Sky Island Common fishing pool has 4 standard entries and Skutlass takes 94 of its 282 weight, a full third, at levels 65 to 69. It is rated Very difficult, so bring the better rod. The Sky Island Rare pool gives it 0.4 of 1.2 for an alpha.

The marsh and forest Huge Damp Egg pool holds only 2 outcomes and Skutlass takes half of them by weight. The Large Damp Egg from the same routes holds 6 outcomes and still gives it 38.46 percent, which is better than most Pals get from a small pool.

Four hundred and ninety six pairs, and no reason

The cheapest pair is Broncherry with Vaelet at level 23, which is 7 levels below the coast. That buys you a farm, a cake and two catches to replace a spawner that cannot give you anything else. Use it only to set passives.

Skutlass Ignis is a different Pal

The Ignis form fills Paldeck 128B, adds Fire, and its katana hits for 2900 instead of 2600. It lives on the volcanic islets at levels 40 to 44 and is bred from this one crossed with Gobfin Ignis, so catching a Skutlass is a step towards it.

◆The shares here are selection weights, not observed catch rates. The coastal group is the rare case where the share needs no interpretation: with one Pal on the roster the weight is the whole table.
◆Skutlass never competes with more than one other Pal on any spawner in the game. Its coastal group has a roster of 1 and its Sunreach group has a roster of 2, which is why 38 mapped points is a far better hand than it looks.
◆The katana form is a timer, not a toggle. Let it run out or use Iaigiri and Skutlass is incapacitated, so carry a spare or carry food. This is the mistake that ends a fight you were winning.
Why bother
Fish Fillet is the reason anyone looks this Pal up: activate it and Skutlass becomes a katana in your hands with 2600 Attack for 10 seconds. It is a real weapon rather than a buff, and it has a real cost, because the Pal is knocked out if you hold the form too long or use Iaigiri. On a base it is a straightforward Watering 4 and Lumbering 4, and it drops sashimi you cannot cook up any other way.

Why is Skutlass so easy to find with only 38 points?

Because it barely shares. The coastal spawner has one Pal on its roster, so every spawn there is a Skutlass, and the Sunreach group has two, giving it 66.67 percent. Point counts hide that completely.

How does the Skutlass katana work?

Fish Fillet turns it into a 2600 Attack katana for 10 seconds with a 10 second cooldown. If you do not revert it in time, or if you use Iaigiri, the Skutlass is knocked out and needs to recover.
