The Astral Mountains hold every catchable Wumpo

Wumpo has 52 mapped points on the main island, 38 of them in a single patch. It runs on three spawner groups here, and one of those groups has no other Pal on its roster, so its handful of points is a guaranteed Wumpo rather than a share of a table.

The route
1Wear cold gear and eat before you landThe Astral Mountains do steady cold damage and a level 52 Ice Pal will outlast you if you are also fighting the weather. A Cold Resistant outfit and hot food first.Astral Mountains, main island
2Camp the patch at [-235, 573]Thirty eight of the 52 mapped points are here. Wumpo is 14.18 percent of that table, so clear what spawns and let it cycle rather than covering ground.38 of 52 points
3Bring Fire damage and expect a slow fightWumpo is pure Ice, so Fire is the only element with a bonus. It has the bulk you would expect from a rideable Pal at this level, so plan for a longer fight than the level band suggests.Ice, weak to Fire
4Throw Giga Spheres, hold the party backGiga tier is right for 45 to 52. Set your team to passive before the last chunk of health, because a Fire Pal will overkill an Ice one and the catch is lost.Overkill loses the catch
5Ride it home and raise your whole baseGuardian of the Snowy Mountain adds 1 to the Transporting level of every other base Pal while Wumpo is stationed there. Combined with its own Transporting 6 that is the reason to keep the first one you catch.Plus 1 Transporting to all other base Pals

An alpha in the Astral Mountains Cavern

The cave under the same mountain can field a Wumpo at levels 42 to 45, flagged alpha. Its boss table holds 28 entries at equal weight, so call it 1 in 28 per cave, and 15 of the 170 mapped portals lead there.

BreedingClose call
335 pairs make a Wumpo

The cheapest pairs land around level 38 against a wild band of 45, which is close enough that the model does not argue. Most of those pairs need a Wumpo Botan, so you are usually catching one Yeti to breed the other.

The 21 World Tree points are a 1 in 72 roll

There are also 21 points in the World Tree at level 80. They sit on one aura spawner shared by 72 Pals at equal weight, so a roll there is 1 in 72 and Kingpaca and Blazamut carry the identical coordinates. Not a population, and not a place to hunt.

Wumpo Botan

The Grass variant is Paldeck 134B, lives on Sakurajima, and has something this Pal does not: a level 38 field boss, which makes it the easier of the two to get. Catching one does not fill this slot.

Paldeck 134 and 134BIce and GrassHow to get Wumpo Botan
One of its three spawner groups has no other Pal on the roster, so those points return a Wumpo every time. There are only 3 of them, so the 38 point patch is still the better first stop.
There is no field boss for Wumpo. Its Grass variant does have one, at level 38, a different Pal from this one.
Its drop table is unusually rich for a level 45 catch: 30 to 50 Decayed Ancient Relics, 10 to 20 Dormant, 4 to 8 Gorgeous and 10 to 20 Ice Radiant Gems, all at 100 percent. Worth farming even after you have caught one.
Why bother
Wumpo is the base logistics upgrade. Transporting 6 on its own body, plus a partner skill that raises the Transporting level of every other Pal at that base by 1, which is a whole base of faster hauling from one catch. It also drops 30 to 50 Decayed Ancient Relics at 100 percent when defeated.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where do you find Wumpo in Palworld 1.0?

The Astral Mountains on the main island. 38 of its 52 mapped points are in the patch at [-235, 573], at levels 45 to 52, with a smaller cluster on the lower slope.

Is there anywhere a Wumpo always spawns?

Yes, in a small way. One of its three spawner groups carries no other Pal, so its 3 points return a Wumpo on every roll. The two big patches are shared tables at 14.18 and 16.81 percent.

Is there an alpha Wumpo?

Not on the surface map. There is no field boss for Wumpo, but the Astral Mountains Cavern boss room can field one at levels 42 to 45 flagged alpha, as 1 of the 28 equal weight entries on that table.

What does Wumpo do at a base?

Transporting 6 itself, and its partner skill raises the Transporting level of every other Pal at that base by 1. It does not stack, so one Wumpo per base is the whole benefit.

Can I catch a Wumpo in the World Tree region?

In theory only. The 21 points listed there at level 80 are one aura spawner shared by 72 Pals at equal weight, so each roll is 1 in 72 and 71 other Pals hold the same coordinates. Go to the Astral Mountains instead.
