Palworld Fishing Guide: Every Rod, Bait, and Rare Catch

Palworld 1.0 hides 546 fishing spots, six rods, four baits, and some of the best schematics in the game behind a minigame most players skip. This field manual covers the entire system, from your first cast at level 15 to the rod that only comes out of the water.

Fishing in Palworld 1.0 is a loot system wearing a minigame as a disguise. The rules fit in one sentence, straight from the rod's own description: stand near water where shadows are visible, use bait, and reel in Pals and treasure. What that sentence hides is 546 fishing spots across the world, six rods, four baits, and loot pools holding some of the best schematics in the game.

Your first cast costs almost nothing:

RequirementsLevel 15+

That is the Beginner Fishing Rod recipe, a two-point technology at level 15. Add a pocket of Simple Bait from any Settlement Merchant at 160 gold and you are fishing. Everything past that point is optimization, and this manual covers all of it.

The rod ladder#

Six rods exist, in three tiers. Each tier has a craftable technology rod and a stronger schematic variant found in the world.

RodHow you get itNotes
Beginner (Chillet)Technology, level 15Your entry ticket
Beginner (Gumoss)World schematicUpgraded beginner, needs 3 Coralum Ore
Intermediate (Cattiva)Technology, level 29Bigger control bar, easier catches
Intermediate (Croajiro)World schematicUpgraded intermediate
Advanced (Pengullet)Technology, level 45480 durability workhorse
Advanced (Depresso)Fishing schematic only720 durability, the best rod in the game

The Depresso rod is the system's best joke: the top rod cannot be crafted from the tech tree at all. Its schematic is a guaranteed drop from the rare-catch pool at Dark Island, which means the only way to earn the ultimate fishing rod is to go fishing. Building it afterward takes serious endgame material:

Our Coralum ore farm guide covers the ore supply; the full recipe also wants 140 Paldium Fragments, 20 High Quality Pal Oil, 30 Pal Metal Ingots, and 20 Carbon Fiber.

Bait, from cheap to alluring#

Bait is not optional; no bait, no cast. The four tiers split cleanly into two you buy and two you craft.

BaitSourceEffect
Simple BaitVendors, 160 goldThe baseline that makes fishing work
High Quality BaitVendors, 240 goldRaises the chance of Pals biting
Deluxe BaitCraft at level 38, batch of 10Enlarges the minigame control bar
Alluring BaitCraft at level 52, batch of 3Bigger bar and more items per catch

Alluring Bait is the endgame answer: its recipe (10 High Quality Pal Oil, 1 Cavern Mushroom, 3 Carrots, 5 Flour per batch of 3) is pure ranch-and-plantation output, and the "more items" line is exactly what you want pointed at a treasure pool.

Vendor bait is stocked at Settlement Merchants across the map, at Duneshelter, and, fittingly, at a spot the game named for the job:

Reading the water#

Fishing spots are fixed world locations, and the 1.0 map holds 469 of them, with another 77 inside the World Tree. Every spot has two properties that decide whether it is worth your bait:

  • Habitat. Spots are typed as surface, river, ocean, or oil rig water, and habitat drives what can bite.
  • Rarity. Common spots are everywhere; rare spots feed the treasure pools where the headline loot lives.

You do not need to memorize any of this. The interactive map's fishing filter plots every spot, and the rare ones cluster exactly where you would hope: Dark Island, Sakurajima, the sky islands, and the World Tree.

What is actually in the water#

Each region runs its own pond pool, and the endgame zones layer treasure pools on top: Dark Island, Sakurajima, the two sky island tables, and the World Tree all fish differently. Across every pool, fishing carries 284 unique schematics, which makes it the second-broadest schematic source in the game.

Three catches justify the whole system:

  1. The Advanced Fishing Rod (Depresso) schematic, a 100% reward from Dark Island's rare-catch treasure table.
  2. Ancient armor schematics from the second sky island pool, headlined by a grade-5 blueprint at 6.9%.
  3. Region-locked weapon and armor schematics that share space with chest and camp loot but come with a parallel activity attached: you can fish while your base crafts, in zones you were already farming.

Before you commit an evening to a specific schematic, confirm fishing is actually in its source list on the item's page. Our schematic drop guide explains why farming the wrong pool is the most common way to waste a week in 1.0.

The fishing party#

Two Pals turn fishing from a pastime into a farm.

Jelliette Drop increases items obtained from fishing by 55% at rank 1, scaling with condensation, which multiplies directly with a treasure pool's per-catch yield. Whalaska's Chilled Whale Cruiser starts each catch with bonus progress and adds capture chance while your bars overlap, at 5% each at rank 1 and 7% at rank 2. Whalaska Ignis carries the same package for players who fish the warm coasts.

Both are water Pals you can browse in the Palpedia before you build the party.

Fishing is the rare Palworld system that gets better the deeper the rest of your save goes: better zones mean better pools, better ranches mean free bait, and the best rod in the game is waiting at the bottom of the scariest island's water. Take the rod along the next time you clear Dark Island and collect it.
