Palworld's Legendary Merchants look like premium shopkeepers, but their real endgame value starts after the store closes. Every one has four to six work suitabilities, every one carries a level 4 specialty, and all six can be turned into compact multi-role workers with extreme Work Speed.
That makes them fundamentally different from the merchants covered in our best merchants to capture guide. Inventory determines which merchant belongs beside a cash register. Work suitability determines which one belongs on your production floor.
Every Legendary Merchant work suitability#
All six Legendary Merchants start with the same base Craft Speed value of 100. Their advantage is coverage. A normal specialist usually brings one strong job and a few weak ones, while these humans combine a level 4 job with several fallback jobs in a single base slot. Use the work suitability guide to compare their specialties with the full Pal roster.
| Legendary visitor | Work suitability | Best base role |
|---|---|---|
| Game Hunter | Planting 1, Handiwork 2, Lumbering 1, Mining 1, Cooling 4 | Cold storage with useful downtime jobs |
| Ammo Merchant | Planting 1, Handiwork 4, Lumbering 1, Mining 2 | Assembly lines, weapon work, repairs |
| Grocer | Planting 4, Handiwork 1, Gathering 2, Lumbering 1, Mining 1 | Crop production and harvest support |
| Pharmacist | Planting 1, Handiwork 1, Lumbering 2, Mining 1, Medicine Production 4 | Medicine and clinic production |
| Gourmet | Kindling 4, Watering 2, Planting 1, Handiwork 1, Lumbering 1, Mining 1 | Cooking with six-job emergency coverage |
| Materials Merchant | Planting 1, Handiwork 2, Lumbering 1, Mining 1, Transporting 4 | High-volume hauling and general support |
The Legendary Gourmet has the widest kit at six jobs. That breadth is excellent in a lightly staffed utility base, but it also creates assignment drift. Fix the Gourmet to a kitchen or furnace from the Monitoring Stand when Kindling is the reason you deployed it.
The Legendary Ammo Merchant is the cleanest pure production pick. Handiwork 4 already qualifies it for demanding assembly work, while Mining 2 gives it something productive to do between orders. It also has fewer competing job types than the Gourmet, so it is easier to control.
The Materials Merchant fills a rarer niche. Transporting 4 plus four backup jobs makes it a strong cleanup worker for farms, ranches, and manufacturing bases where unfinished hauling creates the real bottleneck.
Why 761 Work Speed is achievable#
The eye-catching Work Speed numbers attached to captured merchants are built, not rolled as a hidden merchant bonus. Legendary humans use the same base Craft Speed value of 100 and do not receive an innate Work Speed passive from their character entry.
The strongest permanent passive package is:
| Passive | Work Speed effect |
|---|---|
| Demon's Hand | +90% |
| Remarkable Craftsmanship | +75% |
| Artisan | +50% |
| Work Slave | +30% |
| Combined passive bonus | +245% |
Demon's Hand is the World Tree passive that pushes the build into a different tier. Its +90% Work Speed comes with 15% faster SAN loss, so the base must support the worker with good food, beds, hot springs, and SAN-reduction facilities.
Remarkable Craftsmanship can be installed through the passive-changing endgame system. Artisan and Work Slave round out the four-passive production package. Serious gives +20% and remains the best bridge passive until the final set is complete.
From there, stack the systems that sit outside the passive slots:
- Max Work Speed soul investment adds 60% across 20 ranks.
- Work food adds another timed multiplier. Dumud Chowder and Mozzarina Hamburger provide the strongest sustainable +50% buff for 600 seconds.
- The Ancient Monitoring Stand raises the base's work pace while controlling SAN more effectively than early stands.
- Research and other permanent base bonuses raise the displayed total further.
- The World Settings Work Speed multiplier scales the final result in worlds that use custom settings.
A merchant near 761 Work Speed is therefore a completed production build operating under multiple systems. Capturing the same visitor does not produce 761 by itself.
How Legendary Merchant visits work#
Legendary visitors occupy their own top visitor tier. They enter the eligible pool at visitor grade 22 and remain eligible through grade 99. That grade follows base progression, so an early or lightly developed base does not roll them.
All six Legendary Merchants use the Meadow visitor pool and have the same selection weight. Once a Meadow base reaches the required tier, the game is not secretly favoring the Ammo Merchant, Grocer, or any other member of the set.
The complete visitor group is much more dangerous than the merchant's friendly stance suggests:
- The merchant leader appears at level 63 to 67.
- Three Pal Tamer escorts appear at level 68 to 75.
- Three more Pal Tamer escorts appear at level 70 to 76.
That is one merchant and six high-level guards entering the base together. Turning the visit hostile inside a working endgame headquarters can destroy production structures, injure workers, and scatter stored items.
Visitor farming works best at a dedicated Meadow outpost. Give the Palbox an open ground approach, keep the route free of defensive walls and locked gates, and leave the base empty of valuable workers and production lines. Sky Island bases are poor visitor farms because they do not provide the same Meadow ground approach used by the caravan event.
The safest capture setup#
The safest method converts the visitor event into a controlled trap encounter instead of starting a seven-enemy fight in the middle of your main base.
- Build an expendable Meadow outpost with an exposed Palbox and clear entrance path
- Remove valuable workers, storage, defensive Pals, and fragile production structures
- Carry the strongest sphere available and equip the Mercy Ring
- Place a Hanging Trap where the visitor leader will stand or walk
- Separate the Legendary Merchant from the six escorts before dealing direct damage
- Lower the target carefully, throw from close range, and reset the outpost after the event
The data explicitly marks all six Legendary Merchants as compatible with the Hanging Trap. Use that fact. A trapped merchant cannot run through the base while six escorts create crossfire.
For the lowest-risk health reduction, place a campfire beneath the trapped target and let environmental damage do the early work. Remove the fire well before the merchant reaches lethal health, then use a Mercy Ring hit for the final controlled reduction. Environmental damage does not inherit Mercy Ring protection, so leaving the campfire in place is the fastest way to lose a rare visitor.
All six merchants have a 0.1 capture-rate correction. In practical terms, their capture resistance is severe. Maximize Lifmunk Effigy capture power, use your highest sphere tier, reduce health as far as the Mercy Ring permits, and throw at close range rather than gambling on repeated low-percentage attempts.
If the escorts engage, pull them away from the trapped leader and clear them before resuming the capture. Do not release combat Pals beside the merchant unless their attacks are tightly controlled. Area attacks can erase the target after the hard part is already finished.
Which merchant is worth building first#
Choose by the bottleneck that consumes a permanent base slot:
- Ammo Merchant: best first capture for an assembly-heavy endgame base.
- Gourmet: best generalist and strongest cooking anchor.
- Materials Merchant: best for hauling-heavy farms and ranches.
- Pharmacist: best for medicine production and health infrastructure.
- Grocer: best for crop operations that need one worker to cover planting and gathering.
- Game Hunter: best for cold storage that also needs useful backup labor.
The ranking changes with assignment discipline. A fixed-assignment Gourmet is an elite Kindling worker. An unrestricted Gourmet can waste that strength on Planting 1 or Handiwork 1. The same rule applies to the entire group: broad suitability is valuable only when the Monitoring Stand prevents weak fallback jobs from stealing time from the level 4 specialty.
The real endgame use case#
Legendary Merchants are not replacements for every perfect Pal. They are slot-efficient human specialists that also preserve their shop interaction after capture. One capture can provide a permanent store, a level 4 production role, and several emergency jobs.
That combination is strongest in compact endgame bases where each assigned slot must solve more than one problem. Capture the shop inventory you need, build the worker around its level 4 suitability, fix its assignment, and treat the merchant's Work Speed as a full progression project. Done correctly, the shopkeeper becomes one of the busiest workers in the base.
