How to Turn a Bad-IV Favorite Into an Endgame Pal

A favorite Pal with poor potential is not ruined. Repair its IVs, passives, skills, rank, Souls, and Awakening in the safest, most efficient order.

You catch a Pal on a great adventure. It survives fights it had no business surviving, earns a permanent nickname, and becomes the face of the save. Then Ability Glasses reveal the truth: its potential is awful.

Keep the Pal.

Palworld 1.0 gives you a complete rehabilitation path. A bad roll can cost resources, but it does not have to cost the companion you actually care about.

First, diagnose the Pal instead of replacing it#

Ability Glasses show three hidden potential values from 0 to 100:

  • Health potential influences the Pal's HP growth.
  • Attack potential influences offensive stats.
  • Defense potential influences damage resistance.

Pal Tamer's Glasses add the same inspection ability to a nonlethal hunting accessory, but the readout is what matters here. Record all three values before spending anything.

A low number is a repair estimate. A Pal at 43 Attack needs six Power Fruits to reach 100 because five fruits reach 93 and the sixth finishes the job. The excess does not create potential above the cap.

Step 1: Repair Health, Attack, and Defense potential#

Each stat fruit adds 10 points to its matching potential:

FruitPotential raisedUse it when
Life FruitHealth +10The Pal needs more survival or is far below 100 HP potential
Power FruitAttack +10The Pal fights, mounts, or uses damage partner skills
Stout FruitDefense +10The Pal must stay active through boss pressure

Use this formula for each stat:

**Fruits needed = (100 - current potential) ÷ 10, rounded up**
Current potentialFruits to reach 100
91 to 1000 to 1
81 to 901 to 2
61 to 802 to 4
31 to 604 to 7
0 to 307 to 10

For example, Tarantriss is a Dark combat mount with a double jump, a grappling partner skill, and solid natural combat stats. Poor Attack potential hurts what makes it special, so Power Fruit is the first repair. Its species identity was never the problem. The hidden roll was.

Step 2: Replace bad passives at the Surgery Table#

The Surgery Table unlocks at level 38 in the current 1.0 data. It lets you apply passive-changing surgery through the relevant implants and costs.

This is where a beloved Pal stops being trapped by its original roll. Remove passives that fight the intended role, then build a coherent set:

  • Combat build: prioritize damage, survivability, or mount speed as the partner skill requires.
  • Base build: prioritize work speed, movement, hunger, and SAN efficiency.
  • Hybrid build: accept a lower ceiling in exchange for a Pal you use everywhere.

Do not chase four fashionable passives without checking whether they improve this Pal. The best attack passives guide helps compare a true combat setup, while the Team Builder shows how the finished Pal fits beside its teammates.

Step 3: Set the active skill loadout#

Potential determines how well the Pal uses its stats. Passives shape the build. Active skills decide what it actually does in a fight.

Use Skill Fruits to teach coverage, then equip a three-skill set with purpose:

  1. A fast, low-cooldown move for steady pressure.
  2. A reliable main damage skill.
  3. A high-impact finisher, control tool, or coverage move.

Three huge cooldowns can produce impressive screenshots and terrible real damage. A favorite feels stronger when it always has something useful to cast.

Step 4: Raise condensation rank without losing your history#

The Pal Essence Condenser raises rank and improves stats and partner-skill performance. In 1.0, reaching maximum rank costs 48 material Pals.

You have three routes:

  • Condense same-species copies directly into the favorite.
  • Use Ripe Starfruit to raise it by one rank.
  • Transfer stored condensation value from a condensed same-species donor.

The third route is easy to misunderstand. It transfers condensation value, not the donor's identity. Passives, potential, Souls, and active-skill choices do not copy over, and the donor is consumed.

Use the condensation transfer guide before moving a large investment.

Step 5: Apply Pal Souls at the Statue of Power#

Soul enhancement is another permanent layer. It improves the Pal directly and belongs after you know the Pal's role.

If you have the wrong Soul tier, split downward through crafting:

  • 1 Giant Pal Soul becomes 2 Large.
  • 1 Large becomes 2 Medium.
  • 1 Medium becomes 2 Small.

This keeps the upgrade moving without forcing you back into old farming zones.

  1. 1Max the most role-critical Soul category

Attack for a damage dealer, durability for a Pal that must remain deployed.

  2. 2Fill the second category

Cover the Pal's biggest practical weakness.

  3. 3Finish optional categories last

Do not spend rare Souls on stats the build barely uses.

Step 6: Awaken only after the build is settled#

Awakening is the final commitment. Craft the Pal's affinity-specific Awakening Crystal from 50 matching Radiant Gems and 10 World Tree Holy Water, then apply the one-time upgrade.

For Tarantriss, that means the Dark path. For a dual-element Pal, check the available crystal recipe in the planner before farming.

The Awakening planner combines the crystal recipe and Soul investment so you can see the full bill before spending World Tree resources.

A naturally perfect Pal saves materials. A repaired favorite preserves the story. By the endgame, both can stand on the same battlefield.

The safest upgrade order#

The order below minimizes regret:

  1. 1Inspect potential

Record Health, Attack, and Defense with Ability Glasses.

  2. 2Decide the role

Combat, base, mount, or hybrid determines every later choice.

  3. 3Use stat fruits

Repair the important potential values to 100.

  4. 4Fix passives

Build a coherent set at the Surgery Table.

  5. 5Teach and equip active skills

    Balance cooldowns and coverage.

  6. 6Condense to the desired rank

Use copies, a donor transfer, or Ripe Starfruit.

  7. 7Spend Pal Souls

Enhance the stats that serve the chosen role.

  8. 8Awaken last

Commit the rare affinity crystal only when the build is final.

Favorite Pal rehabilitation checklist#

  • Favorite and nickname the correct Pal
  • Record all three potential values
  • Choose one primary role
  • Calculate Life, Power, and Stout Fruit needs
  • Replace passives that conflict with the role
  • Equip a balanced three-skill loadout
  • Plan the 48-Pal maximum condensation cost
  • Transfer condensation only from the same species
  • Complete the relevant Soul enhancements
  • Preview the affinity Awakening Crystal cost
  • Awaken only after every cheaper decision is settled

Bad potential is a material problem, not a character flaw. If a Pal has already earned its place in your team, 1.0 gives you the tools to make the numbers catch up.
