The final expedition looks like the obvious endgame choice. It asks for the strongest team, takes the longest, and flashes the most exotic reward pool. That does not make it the best hourly farm.
In Palworld 1.0, the winning expedition changes with the item you want. The World Tree's Forbidden Area is a specialist mission. Treating it as the universal default is the trap.

The endgame mission board at a glance#
- Fastest endgame missions
- 60 minutes
- Forbidden Area base time
- 120 minutes
- Forbidden Area strength
- 2,100,000
- Base Dog Coins per hour
- 2.75 expected
| Expedition | Base time | Recommended strength | Required team |
|---|---|---|---|
| Celestial Sakura Cavern | 60 min | 375,000 | 20 Water Pals |
| Dark Cave of Feybreak | 60 min | 476,000 | 20 Dark Pals |
| Sunreach Isle | 60 min | 589,000 | 20 Dragon Pals |
| World Tree Subterranean City Ruins | 60 min | 851,000 | 20 Pals |
| The World Tree's Forbidden Area | 120 min | 2,100,000 | 20 Pals |
The hour-long World Tree mission is the Subterranean City Ruins. The two-hour mission is the Forbidden Area. They share a region, but they are different reward products.
If Auto-Assign keeps borrowing workers you need elsewhere, set up the roster with our expedition exclusion guide before optimizing the loot.
Ranking by Ancient Civilization Cores#
Guaranteed quantities make the cleanest hourly comparison. A chance-based reward is multiplied by its probability to produce an expected value.
| Expedition | Core reward per run | Expected cores/hour |
|---|---|---|
| World Tree Subterranean City Ruins | 3 to 5, guaranteed | 4.00 |
| Sunreach Isle | 3 to 4, guaranteed | 3.50 |
| Dark Cave of Feybreak | 2 to 3, guaranteed | 2.50 |
| The World Tree's Forbidden Area | 6 to 9 at 50% | 1.875 |
| Celestial Sakura Cavern | 1 to 2, guaranteed | 1.50 |
Yes, the ordinary World Tree expedition produces more than twice the expected Core throughput of the final expedition. Sunreach also wins comfortably.
Difficulty buys access to a different reward pool. It does not promise better throughput for every item inside that pool.
If Cores are the bottleneck for a Wing Pack, Ancient Power Generator, or other late-game craft, run Subterrenean City Ruins. For active alternatives between expedition returns, use the Ancient Civilization Core farm guide.
Ranking by Ancient Civilization Parts#
The same pattern appears with Ancient Civilization Parts.
| Expedition | Parts per run | Expected parts/hour |
|---|---|---|
| World Tree Subterranean City Ruins | 8 to 9, guaranteed | 8.50 |
| Sunreach Isle | 8 to 9, guaranteed | 8.50 |
| Dark Cave of Feybreak | 7 to 8, guaranteed | 7.50 |
| Celestial Sakura Cavern | 6 to 7, guaranteed | 6.50 |
| The World Tree's Forbidden Area | 9 to 11 at 50% | 2.50 |
The Forbidden Area is especially poor if Parts are your only target. It spends two mission-hours on a reward that only appears half the time.
What about Dog Coins?#
The Forbidden Area guarantees 1 to 10 Dog Coins per completion. The midpoint is 5.5 coins across a two-hour base mission:
**5.5 expected Dog Coins ÷ 2 hours = 2.75 Dog Coins per hour**
That is passive income, not a dedicated Dog Coin farm. Its value is that the mission runs while you breed, build, explore, or fight. If you are actively hunting coins, judge the expedition as a small background rebate.
Where each expedition actually wins#
There is no useful single ranking because the reward pools serve different projects.
1. World Tree Subterranean City Ruins#
Best for: Ancient Civilization Cores per hour, strong Parts, Paloxite, Ancient Spheres, and Giant Pal Souls.
This is the default repeatable endgame expedition. It finishes in one base hour and pays guaranteed core infrastructure materials. If you are unsure what to run, start here.
2. Sunreach Isle#
Best for: Cores plus Coralum, Soralite, Sol Spheres, manuscripts, and Giant Pal Souls.
Sunreach gives up half a Core per hour against the Subterranean City in exchange for a resource mix that feeds 1.0 progression. It is often the more useful mission when several production lines are advancing together.
3. Dark Cave of Feybreak#
Best for: Crude Oil as a side reward, manuscripts, and a lower strength threshold.
Its guaranteed Core rate is below Sunreach, but the 15 to 30 Crude Oil reward gives it a practical niche. It is a comfortable bridge for rosters that cannot yet meet Sunreach or World Tree strength.
4. Celestial Sakura Cavern#
Best for: Accessible one-hour runs while the endgame expedition roster is still growing.
Its Core output is modest. Its real advantage is a 375,000 recommended strength requirement, less than half the ordinary World Tree mission.
5. The World Tree's Forbidden Area#
Best for: Dog Coins, advanced relic and gem rolls, and players who can meet the 2,100,000 strength target without dismantling the rest of the base.
The final expedition is not bad. It is narrow. Run it because you want its exclusive mix, not because the menu places it last.
How research changes the ranking#
Pal Research Lab bonuses can shorten expedition time and increase rewards. Those upgrades make every mission better, but they do not erase the base opportunity cost.
For a personal comparison, use this formula:
**Expected items per hour = expected items per run ÷ your displayed mission hours**
Do not use the unmodified table time if your mission board already shows a shorter duration. Read the time on your own dispatch screen, then divide. When reward research changes the final quantity, record several claims and update your average.
Pick the right mission in 30 seconds#
- 1Name the one item blocking your next project
“General value” is too vague to optimize.
- 2Check the matching hourly table
Use expected value for chance rewards.
- 3Confirm your roster clears the strength target
An overfilled mission can steal valuable base workers.
- 4Dispatch the shortest mission that wins your target
Faster claims also let you redirect sooner.
- 5Recheck after major research upgrades
Your displayed time is the number that matters.
- Choose Cores: run World Tree Subterranean City Ruins
- Choose Sunreach materials: run Sunreach Isle
- Choose easier oil-backed value: run Dark Cave of Feybreak
- Choose low-strength access: run Celestial Sakura Cavern
- Choose Dog Coins and rare endgame rolls: run the Forbidden Area
- Exclude irreplaceable workers before using Auto-Assign
Before sending your strongest roster into World Tree content, the World Tree progression guide helps you line up the surrounding unlocks. The final expedition becomes worthwhile at exactly the moment its strange reward mix matches your next upgrade.
