Why the five Computers are the real trap#

That 50-Core Ancient Hatchery represents 250 Computers by itself. Flattened one level further, that is 500 Circuit Boards, 750 Plasteel, 500 Bio Batteries, and 500 Carbon Fiber, plus the direct Core ingredients.
An AI Core is not one late-game material. It is a five-Computer production package.
What deserves your first AI Cores#
There is no universal first craft because a weapon, armor upgrade, and factory structure solve different problems. There is a reliable spending order, though.
First, secure the permanent equipment upgrade you know you will keep using. The Ancient Helm and Ancient Armor cost five Cores together, which makes the pair a contained first target rather than an open-ended project.
Second, choose one build-defining weapon or module. A Mechanical Bow or Homing Module costs three Cores, while several later weapons ask for five or more. Crafting one option that fits your loadout is cheaper than building every rung of the weapon ladder.
Third, reserve the total for the expensive target before experimenting. A Wing Pack at 20 Cores or Jetragon's Missile Launcher at 24 can be delayed for a long time by several harmless-looking three-Core crafts.
Finally, approach the four AI Core structures as production investments. The Ancient Workbench begins at five Cores, but the Ancient Hatchery asks for 50. Build the structure when its throughput or function solves a current bottleneck, not simply because it is unlocked.

A practical reserve plan#
Pick a target and turn its Core count into a warehouse list before touching the assembly line. If your target needs 10 Cores, the minimum reserve is:
