514,800 HP in five minutes: a rotating Knocklem pair under a 30-stack Attack and Defense feed and up to 40% bonus Ground damage.
Hard-mode Axel and Orserk is a damage check wearing a duel's clothes: 514,800 HP behind a five-minute timer, with two Electric adds spending your opening seconds for you. The current tower data lists level 76, not the level 80 several post-1.0 guides still carry, and the counter is the lowest-execution party we would recommend for this fight. Two identically built Knocklems supply the damage in alternating Steel Guardian Mode windows, so an unbuffed or wounded tank is a swap rather than a crisis. Orserk, the boss's own species, turns your gunfire into a stacking Attack and Defense feed for the active Knocklem. Turtacle Terra adds up to 40% to every Ground hit, live against the boss and both adds because the entire enemy roster is weak to Ground. Petallia Ignis answers the trap the fight is built around: Orserk carries Crosswind, Reflect Leaf and Wind Edge specifically to punish Ground counters, and Petallia cuts that damage by up to 30%, blocks Ivy-Covered outright and holds a 90% emergency heal.

The encounter
Axel and Orserk, Hard Mode
Five minutes for 514,800 HP works out to 1,716 HP a second, and the fight spends your first forty-five of those seconds on two Electric adds. Orserk is Dragon and Electric, weak to Ground and Ice, and it carries three Grass moves for exactly one reason: to punish the Ground party you brought. Runs die to three things here: splitting damage between the adds and the boss, letting Orserk's stack buff lapse, and standing in the electric fence with a stunned tank.

Electric fence between the central pillars
The five-minute checkAveraged over the full timer the fight demands 1,716 HP of damage a second, and the opening belongs to the adds. Every slot in this party exists to raise Knocklem's sustained output: buff windows from the rotation, a stack feed from Orserk, a weakness bonus from Turtacle Terra. Pace, not survival, is what usually fails.
The Grass counter-kitCrosswind, Reflect Leaf and Wind Edge on an Electric and Dragon boss have one job: hitting the Ground counter super-effectively. This is the element the fight carries specifically to beat the obvious answer, and it is why the fifth slot is Petallia Ignis rather than a fourth damage multiplier.
The electric fenceAxel periodically connects the central pillars with an electric fence. Contact stuns and electrocutes both you and the active Pal, and the stun chains directly into a 600-power Electric burst, which is how most deaths at this tower actually happen. Fight the outer ring and hold one side while the fence is up.
The opening addsMossanda Lux and Relaxaurus Lux add projectile pressure and steal Knocklem's targeting for as long as they live. Killing both before 0:45, one at a time, is the first checkpoint of every successful run, and splitting damage between them and the boss is the most common way to fall behind the clock.

Every slot has a job. The cards below show the exact synergy, its rank range, who it affects, and a mapped route to recruiting that pal.
Steel Guardian Mode raises its Attack and Defense by 50% each at rank 1, for 40 seconds on a 50-second cooldown: that is our data. Community rank tables put rank 5 at 200% each, which we cannot confirm.
Activated skill with no rank curve in our v1.0.3 export, so no scaling row appears below. The trigger, the 40-second duration and the 50-second cooldown are verified; the rank 5 magnitude is not.
Recruitment route
Catch it in the wild. Spawns at levels 55 to 60 across 11 points on the main island.
The second copy buys a fresh Steel Guardian window the moment the first ends, a second 135-Defense health pool, and a clean answer to a Knocklem caught on the wrong side of the fence or under Crosswind.
Same skill, same missing rank curve, so this slot surfaces no scaling row either. Its value is rotation timing, not a different number.

Every bullet you land adds 1% to 5% Attack and Defense to the Pal fighting beside you for 5 seconds, stacking to 30. A held full bar at rank 5 is 150% of each on the active Knocklem.

TipThe short version
Open away from the central pillars. Rocket both adds, deploy Knocklem, activate Steel Guardian Mode, and kill Mossanda Lux and Relaxaurus Lux one at a time before touching the boss. Keep Drone Launcher fire connecting so Orserk's 30-stack buff never lapses, redirect Knocklem to the boss, and rotate to the second Knocklem when the buff ends, health halves, or the electric fence splits you. Petallia's 90% heal is your one reset: spend it, then redeploy the healthier Knocklem.

Passives to implant
4 core · 5 total
The Knocklems carry the same four passives each, tuned for uptime rather than peak damage, because the check is passed by a tank that never stops attacking. The support trio carries player-facing implants instead: in a Pal-led fight the defensive ones outrank the attack ones. One swap has no card below: Demon God is the aggressive replacement for Diamond Body, and our catalog ships it without effect text, so the wiki figure of 30% Attack and 5% Defense comes from community rank tables and we cannot confirm it. What it costs is verifiable, the flinch and knockback immunity that lets Knocklem finish a Rocky Impact under Electric fire, so take it only once fence deaths and Crosswind recalls are no longer what ends your runs. It rolls in the standard pool either way.

9 picks
The weapons here are jobs, not damage-per-second picks: one feeds the buff, one deletes the adds, one moves you across a fence split. Materials shown on item rows are the first craftable tier.
Weapons
The Drone Launcher is not negotiable in this comp. It is the machine that keeps Orserk's stacks fed while your attention is on the fight.
Up to nine autonomous drones keep a stream of hits connecting, so Orserk's buff climbs and holds while you dodge and reload. Stay in drone range: five seconds without a landed hit and the stack bar starts over.
A launcher that fires drones which perform autonomous attacks. Capable of deploying up to 9 units, enabling sustained suppression.
Paloxite Ingot ×70World Tree Holy Water ×40AI Core ×8Ancient Civilization Core ×5
The opening move. One rocket into Mossanda Lux and Relaxaurus Lux strips most of their health before Knocklem has even picked a target, and it stays your burst option for the final thirty seconds.
A Rocket Launcher that can fire a powerful round from long distances.
Player damage is supplementary here, not decorative: the check is 1,716 HP a second and every safe magazine you land is seconds off the clock. Bring whichever rifle you can feed most reliably.
Cheap insurance. Ivy-Covered cannot root you with Petallia in the party, but the grapple still moves you across the arena when the fence forms on the wrong side of you.
It fires a hook that latches on to distant targets, pulling the user's body towards the target. It allows for easy movement between places with varying elevation.

Armor and consumables
Nothing exotic: defense on your body, a reset in your pocket, an attack buff in your stomach.
Body
Highest-defense armor you own
You are dodging 600-power Electric bursts for five minutes. Defense rolls beat attack rolls in a fight where your damage is supplementary.
Shield
The biggest shield you can craft
Every fence mistake hits the shield first, and there is no Silvegis in this party to multiply it. Bring capacity instead.
Recovery
Highest-tier recovery medicine
Petallia's heal runs a 150-second cooldown. Medicine covers the second emergency inside that window.
Revives a downed Knocklem mid-fight. Spend it only when the second Knocklem is also below half, because the revive detour costs stack uptime and buff time.
A potion that revives a Pal that has been injured and is unable to move.
Attack and defense food replace each other. Take attack: it scales your rockets, your rifle and the drones all at once.
// 06
Stat point priority
Highest priority first
An ordering, not a budget, and it runs opposite to the trainer-damage builds: the Knocklems carry the check, so your points go into staying alive to manage them.
1HealthFirst. Petallia's heal restores a percentage, so a bigger bar makes the one reset worth more, and a dead player ends a run that two healthy Knocklems would have finished.
2AttackSecond. The drones and your rifle are real contributors to a 514,800 HP check. This is Pal-led, not player-idle.
3StaminaThird. You circle the outer ring for five minutes, and every fence reposition and Charge Cannon escape draws on it.
4Weight and work speedLast. Neither does anything inside the tower.
// 07
How to play it
6 steps
The loop below repeats from the moment the adds die until the timer ends. The phase plan above is the schedule; this is the engine turning inside it.
1Activate Steel Guardian Mode on every deploy
The buff is activated, not passive: a Knocklem on the field without it is fighting at base stats. Trigger it the moment either Knocklem lands, every rotation, no exceptions.
2Keep hits connecting to hold 30 stacks
Orserk's buff decays five seconds after your last landed hit, so a reload plus a long dodge can erase the whole bar. The drones exist to cover exactly those gaps: stay in their range and the stacks hold themselves.
3Let Knocklem cycle its three Ground moves
Rocky Impact, Sand Twister and Rock Lance: 600, 500 and 400 power, all into the boss's weakness, all raised by Turtacle Terra's bonus, all faster under Serenity. Your job is not to micromanage the casts; it is to keep the buffs feeding them.
4Rotate on triggers, not on feel
Recall when the buff ends, when Knocklem's health halves, when the fence splits you from it, or when Crosswind is casting at it. Deploy the other Knocklem and reactivate. Four triggers, checked every few seconds, are the whole skill ceiling of this build.
5Contribute weapon damage from the outer ring
Between fence cycles, put your rifle into the boss. Two positioning rules: never stand between the central pillars, and never stand on Reflect Leaf's rebound line.
6Spend Petallia as a reset, not a top-up
Recall the tank, deploy Petallia Ignis, take the 90% heal, redeploy the healthier Knocklem. The swap costs a few seconds of stack decay, so take it when your health is critical, not when it is dented. The heal is player-only: it does nothing for an injured Knocklem.
// 08
Fight plan
7 phases
The clock decides this fight, so read the windows as budgets. The adds get forty-five seconds, the boss gets the rest, and Steel Guardian Mode's 40-second duration means you will rotate Knocklems several times before the timer runs out. The checkpoints are what tell you whether a failed run was pace or execution.
1
0:00 to 0:15Open on your side of the arena
Start on the outer ring, away from the central pillars the fence will connect. Put a rocket into the adds, deploy Knocklem 1, activate Steel Guardian Mode, and get the Drone Launcher out so Orserk's stacks start climbing before the first exchange.
2
0:15 to 0:45Kill both adds, one at a time
Lock Knocklem onto Mossanda Lux with Attack That Enemy (aim at the target and press the mouse wheel or right stick), then Relaxaurus Lux. Do not split damage onto the boss: the adds' projectile pressure and target-stealing cost more clock than they are worth.
Both adds are dead by 0:45 with the first Steel Guardian window still running.
3
0:45 to 1:30Redirect and settle the loop
Point Knocklem at the boss and let it cycle Rocky Impact, Sand Twister and Rock Lance. Your job shrinks to three things: keep hits connecting for the stacks, add safe weapon damage, and watch the pillars for the fence. Stay on the outer ring.
4
1:30 to 2:30First rotations
Steel Guardian's 40-second window has ended at least once by now. Recall on the buff ending, on half health, on a fence split or on an incoming Crosswind, then deploy Knocklem 2 with a fresh activation. An unbuffed Knocklem standing in Grass fire is the slow way to lose.
Boss at or below 60% by 2:30. Above 70% means stacks are lapsing or the drones are out of range.
5
2:30 to 3:30Spend the reset if you need it
The loop continues. If your own health is critical, recall the tank, deploy Petallia Ignis, take the 90% heal, and redeploy whichever Knocklem is healthier. The 150-second cooldown means you get this once, twice only if the first use came very early.
6
3:30 to 4:30Damage discipline
Rotate on triggers, not on feel, and hold your side through every fence cycle. If a Knocklem goes down, spend a Revival Potion only when the other is also below half; otherwise the standing tank with full stacks outdamages the revive detour.
7
4:30 to 5:00Spend everything
Both Steel Guardian activations, every rocket, the rest of your ammunition. Do not recall for safety in the final thirty seconds unless the tank is about to die with the boss still above a sliver. A timer wipe and a death wipe pay the same.
Boss under 15% entering this window. If not, the run was lost at an earlier checkpoint, not here.

Attacks and counterplay
9 attacks
Seven catalog moves and one arena hazard, grouped by what each demands from you rather than by element. Power and cooldown render from the catalog on each row, so the text below spends its words on the response: the Electric bursts force a dodge, the delayed detonations force a second dodge, and the Grass kit forces a recall decision.
Run-enders
The heavy Electric bursts, and the hazard that feeds you into them.
PolykeraunosElectricPower 60030s cooldown
Move perpendicular to Orserk the moment the spears rise, and keep moving: the first spear detonates a few seconds after landing. Recall Knocklem if it is rooted in an animation inside the spear line.
Thunder RailElectricPower 60030s cooldown
A long charge telegraphs it. Strafe perpendicular before the shocks fire, because they arrive simultaneously rather than in sequence. A Knocklem standing in the firing line mid-cast is a recall, not a gamble.
Electric fence
Never roll through it and never send a Knocklem across it. The stun chains straight into Polykeraunos or Thunder Rail. Hold your side until it drops, and grapple out if it forms on top of you.
Delayed detonations
One dodge is not enough: each keeps dealing damage after the first hit zone passes.
Beam SlicerDragonPower 35016s cooldown
The beam is the warning shot: the strip it touches explodes after a short delay. Clear the beam, then keep running, because stopping on the scorched ground is the hit that actually lands.
Charge CannonDragonPower 40020s cooldown
The orb explodes over a wide area on impact, so sidestepping its flight path does not take you out of the blast. Treat it as a full reposition across the arena, not a dodge.
Reflect LeafGrassPower 40020s cooldown
The blade rebounds up to four times. Stay off the line between Knocklem and any pillar, and move off the rebound path so a single cast cannot clip you and the tank twice each.
The anti-Ground kit
Grass moves carried to hit your Knocklems super-effectively. Petallia blunts them; the rotation answers them.
CrosswindGrassPower 50024s cooldown
The recall trigger. Wind blades converge in a cross on Knocklem's position, and even through Petallia's reduction a buffed tank takes real damage. Recall before the blades meet and redeploy after they pass.
Wind EdgeGrassPower 20012s cooldown
Chip, not a killer, but it comes often enough that Petallia's Grass reduction pays out continuously rather than in emergencies. Sidestep the fan and keep your own fire connecting.
Ivy-Covered
The root that turns a Grass hit into a death sentence next to the fence. Petallia Ignis makes you and every party Pal immune, so in this lineup it is a solved mechanic. Without her, it is the reason to carry the grapple.

What this build turns down
3 considered
Three ideas come up every time this fight is discussed. Each is genuinely defensible, and each trades away the thing this party is built to guarantee.
The Ice speed-clear
The case for it Ice hits Orserk's weakness as hard as Ground does, and Ice attackers dodge the Grass counter-kit entirely because they do not share Knocklem's Grass weakness. Player-damage Ice builds post faster clears.
Faster when it works. Every Ice route moves the load onto your aim, your weapon tier and your dodging, and none of the safe Ice options reproduces an activated Attack and Defense buff running on a two-Pal rotation. This page's premise is the consistent clear, and that is the double Knocklem.
God of Destruction on the Knocklems
The case for it Attack +40% and Defense +20% is the largest stat passive available, and this fight is a damage check on a timer.
It also halves max Health, and the entire reason this party works is a tank that survives the Grass kit long enough to keep its buff windows running. A half-health Knocklem turns Crosswind from a recall trigger into a death. The check is passed with uptime, not with a glass tank.
One Knocklem plus a fourth multiplier
The case for it The second Knocklem adds no new buff, so the slot could hold Silvegis's shield mitigation or another amplifier instead.
Steel Guardian Mode runs 40 seconds against a 50-second cooldown, so a lone Knocklem fights ten seconds of every fifty unbuffed with no relief waiting. The second copy buys continuous uptime, a spare health pool and a free answer to every recall trigger, which is worth more across five minutes than any third multiplier.

Where to get everything
6 stops
Two breeding lines, three condensation projects and three crafts. None of it needs a lucky drop, but the Drone Launcher sits at technology 77, so this is an endgame shopping list.
Breed the Knocklem pairYou need two, built identically: same four passives, same three moves. Both slots want full condensation and real levels, so start the breeding line early rather than hunting a second wild catch late.Knocklem field guide
Condense the support trio to rank 5The support numbers on this page are rank 5 values: 5% per hit from Orserk, 40% from Turtacle Terra, 30% Grass reduction and a 90% heal from Petallia Ignis. At rank 1 the same three slots pay 1%, 25%, and 15% with an 80% heal.
Condense the Knocklems tooOur data holds no rank curve for Steel Guardian Mode, so we cannot show what condensation adds to it. It is still the recommendation: the support values above assume rank 5, and if the community tables are right about the buff, this is the largest upgrade in the build.
Reach technology 77 for the Drone LauncherIt wants 70 Paloxite Ingots, 40 World Tree Holy Water, 8 AI Cores and 5 Ancient Civilization Cores. Expensive, but it is the machine that holds Orserk's stacks, so it outranks every other craft on this list.Drone Launcher materials
Craft the Rocket Launcher at technology 6575 Coralum Ingots, 30 Polymer, 25 Carbon Fiber and 10 Computers. One round into the opening adds is the cheapest forty-five seconds this fight will ever sell you.
Stock Revival Potions at technology 6130 Cavern Mushrooms, 50 Red Berries, 20 High Quality Pal Oil, 10 Cotton Candy and 20 Sulfur per potion. Two is enough: this is insurance for a downed Knocklem, not part of the rotation.
// 12
Alternates and flex picks
2 viable swaps
Keep the build's identity while adapting the lineup to the pals you own or the encounter ahead.
Is Axel and Orserk level 76 or level 80 in hard mode?
Level 76, with 514,800 HP, in the current tower data (our export is v1.0.3). Several early post-1.0 guides list level 80 while quoting that same 514,800 HP, so if you arrived from one of them: the HP figure is right, the level is stale. Version 1.0 also cut tower timers from ten minutes to five, which is why older pacing advice reads wrong.
Does Steel Guardian Mode really give 200% Attack and Defense at max rank?
We cannot confirm it. Our committed catalog holds the rank 1 text, a 50% Attack and 50% Defense buff running 40 seconds on a 50-second cooldown, and no rank curve above it. Community rank tables report 200% at rank 5. The strategy on this page does not depend on which figure is true: the party, the triggers and the rotation are identical at 50%.
Why bring Petallia Ignis to an Electric and Dragon boss?
Because the boss brought Grass for your Ground team. Crosswind, Reflect Leaf and Wind Edge all hit Knocklem super-effectively, and Ivy-Covered can root you beside the fence. Petallia Ignis cuts that Grass damage by 30% for the whole party, blocks Ivy-Covered outright and carries a 90% player heal. Silvegis, the usual defensive pick, protects only your shield and does nothing for the Knocklems.
How do Orserk's stacks work with the Drone Launcher?
Each bullet hit gives the Pal fighting beside you 5% Attack and 5% Defense at rank 5, for five seconds, stacking to 30. The Drone Launcher is the easiest way to keep hits connecting without giving the fight your whole attention, because its drones fire on their own while you dodge and reload. The catch is the duration: five seconds without a landed hit and the bar starts falling, so staying in range matters more than fire rate.
Can one Knocklem clear this fight?
It can, but the margin shrinks in exactly the way this party exists to prevent. Steel Guardian Mode runs 40 seconds against a 50-second cooldown, so a solo Knocklem fights ten seconds of every fifty unbuffed, and a Crosswind recall or a fence split has no answer waiting. The second Knocklem is uptime insurance, a second health pool, and the difference between a bad moment and a wipe.
