Bjorn and Bastigor Hard Counter

Updated

487,500 HP in five minutes, answered by two rotating Iron Guardian carries, 30 Orserk stacks and up to 40% bonus Fire damage on every weakness hit.

Hard mode Bjorn and Bastigor is a level 80 Ice boss with 487,500 HP behind a five-minute timer, and it is built to bait Fire counters into a trap: Bastigor carries three Water attacks that hit a Fire carry super effectively. This party accepts the bait and manages it. Two Knocklem Ignis alternate Iron Guardian Mode, an activated buff our data verifies at 60% Attack and 60% Defense for 40 seconds on a 50-second cooldown, so a buffed carry is on the field almost continuously. Orserk turns every bullet you land into up to 5% Attack and Defense on the fighting pal, five seconds a stack, thirty stacks deep. Finsider Ignis adds 25% to 40% to Fire damage that hits an elemental weakness, which is every hit of this fight. Silvegis keeps your shield standing through the opening adds and the tracking projectiles. You clear three escorts, rotate two carries, and recall on every Water cast.

The encounter

Bjorn and Bastigor, Hard Mode

The Feybreak tower in its hard configuration: Bjorn rides Bastigor, the pair fights as one level 80 Ice boss with 487,500 HP, and the arena gives you five minutes plus three human escorts to shoot through first. Runs die to two things. The obvious one is pace, a sustained 1,625 damage per second. The quieter one is Water: Bastigor is an Ice pal that carries Geyser Gush, Hydro Laser and Aqua Surge precisely because everyone brings Fire, and each of those casts hits a deployed Fire carry super effectively.

Water coverage
Three Water attacks exist to punish the obvious Fire counter.
  • The 1,625-per-second check487,500 HP across 300 seconds is a sustained 1,625 damage per second. The party meets it with near-continuous Iron Guardian windows and 30 Orserk stacks, and every second a carry sits recalled or unbuffed, the required rate on the remaining clock climbs.
  • Water carried to punish FireThree of the nine attacks are Water, super effective against a Fire carry. The pal AI does not dodge them for you: you recall the carry when the cast starts, wait out the dangerous portion, and redeploy. That recall discipline is the real skill test of the fight.
  • Three escorts before the bossTwo Feybreak Warriors and a Feybreak Berserker spawn alongside the boss. The Berserker's explosives disrupt aiming, dodging and drone uptime, so the fight opens with a rocket into the group, Berserker first, before any carry deploys.
  • The rider is the targetBjorn on Bastigor's back is the practical weak point for player shots and pays better than firing into the body. Stack maintenance still outranks it: stacks decay five seconds after your last bullet, so a continuous stream anywhere beats a perfect shot occasionally.

The lineup

5 core members

Every slot has a job. The cards below show the exact synergy, its rank range, who it affects, and a mapped route to recruiting that pal.

Primary Fire carry01
Knocklem Ignis Core attacker

Iron Guardian Mode is verified in our data as an activated 60% Attack and 60% Defense buff, 40 seconds against a 50-second cooldown. Community rank tables report 210% for both at rank 5, which we cannot confirm.

Activated partner skills carry no rank curve in the 1.0.3 export, so no scaling row appears here. The verified trigger, magnitude, duration and cooldown are in the note.
Recruitment route

Catch it in the wild. Spawns at levels 65 to 68 across 36 points on the main island.

Rotation carry02
Knocklem Ignis Core attacker

The second copy is not a stack: only one pal fights at a time. It buys a fresh Iron Guardian window when the first expires, a second 135-Defense health pool after a Water mistake, and recovery time for its partner.

Same species, same missing rank curve, so no scaling row here either. Run the identical passive set and skill bar on both copies.

Stack engine03
Orserk 1 effect

Every bullet that connects gives the fighting pal 1% to 5% Attack and Defense for five seconds, stacking to 30. The stacks decay fast, so a continuous drone stream matters more than any single well-aimed shot.

TipThe short version

Rocket the two Feybreak Warriors and the Berserker off the arena before touching the boss. Deploy Knocklem 1, activate Iron Guardian Mode, command Attack That Enemy, and keep Drone Launcher bullets connecting so Orserk holds 30 stacks. Shoot Bjorn, the rider, when it is safe. Recall the active Knocklem the moment Geyser Gush, Hydro Laser or Aqua Surge starts, and swap to Knocklem 2 whenever the buff window ends. Advanced Recovery Meds cover the mistakes.

Passives to implant

5 core · 6 total

Both Knocklems run the identical four-passive survival set: this build wins by keeping a buffed carry deployed, not by chasing a theoretical Attack ceiling. The three supports never leave their spheres, so their passives buff you. Fill their spare slots with Reload Master, Healing Coach or Idiosyncratic when you have them; none of those is load-bearing.

Serenity

All five slots
Rank 3 · Standard pool

Active skill cooldown reduction 30% Attack +10%

Cuts the carry's active-skill cooldowns by 30% and adds 10% Attack. On the Fire trio that is more Flame Walls and Fire Balls per Iron Guardian window, which is where the damage check is actually won.

How to get it

Standard pool: rolls on wild catches and breeds down normally.

Flame Emperor

All five slots
Rank 3 · No roll pool

30% increase in Fire attack damage.

30% more Fire damage from the pal carrying it. Every skill on the recommended bar is Fire, so it multiplies the entire kit, and it sits on a different axis from Finsider Ignis's weakness bonus.

How to get it

No-roll pool, so it never appears on an ordinary wild catch. Breed it down from a Fire pal that carries it innately, or move it with an implant.

Immortality

All five slots
Rank 4 · Mutation

Absorbs 100% of damage dealt and restores Health. Pal Auto Health Regeneration Rate +100%. Attack +15%.

Restores Health for 100% of damage dealt, doubles the pal's auto regeneration, and adds 15% Attack. A carry that heals through its own Flame Funnel ticks holds a full window through Ice chip damage.

How to get it

Mutation pool only, so it never rolls on a wild catch. Breed for it or pull the implant from the ancient relic recycler.

Defense +30% Immune to Flinch Immune to Knockback

Defense +30% plus immunity to flinch and knockback. Bastigor's kit is full of interrupts, and a carry that finishes its Fire Ball animation under pressure out-damages one that keeps getting staggered.

Finsider Ignis cuts weapon weight by 60% to 100%, so this is the rare build that carries four weapons without paying for it. Each one has a single job, and the consumables are as load-bearing as the guns.

Armor and consumables

Player survival here is a shield number plus a meds discipline, and the last slot is damage food.

Stat point priority

Highest priority first

A pal-led party, but you are not a passenger: Orserk stacks come off your bullets and your shots at Bjorn count toward the check. The ordering assumes Silvegis plus a big shield is doing the heavy defensive work.

  1. 1AttackFirst. Vanguard and Mammorest Curry both multiply it, and your launcher and rifle damage on Bjorn is real progress against a 487,500 HP bar.
  2. 2HealthSecond. Silvegis mitigates the shield, not your health bar, and Frost Talon, Spirit Flame and the Ice zones will land on you eventually.
  3. 3StaminaThird. Five minutes of sprinting out of converging water rings and ice fields; running dry inside an Aqua Surge ring is a death.
  4. 4Weight and work speedLast. Finsider Ignis already erases 60% to 100% of weapon weight, so the four-weapon loadout is nearly free, and work speed does nothing in a tower.
// 07

How to play it

6 steps

The fight timeline above says when; this is the repeating 50-second unit itself, the loop you run from the first deploy to the kill.

  1. 1Activate on deploy, every deploy

Every Knocklem deployment starts identically: Iron Guardian Mode the moment it lands, then Attack That Enemy on Bastigor. The verified 60% Defense is a large part of why the carry survives Ice hits at all, so an unbuffed carry on the field is a rotation error.

  2. 2Run the tested trio

Flame Wall, Flame Funnel and Fire Ball, all learned naturally. The wall parks persistent contact damage where Bastigor stands, the funnel tracks its movement, and Fire Ball is the heavy hit. Serenity's 30% cooldown cut keeps the bar cycling nearly continuously.

  3. 3Never let the bullet stream stop

Orserk stacks decay five seconds after your last hit. Drones stay deployed and refreshed, and the Plasma Rifle comes up whenever they lose connection. Thirty stacks at rank 5 is up to 150% Attack and Defense on the carry; zero stacks is the pace check failing.

  4. 4Take the Bjorn shots that are free

When stacks are full and no cast is winding up, aim at the rider. Do not chase it: repositioning to line up Bjorn while Aqua Surge converges is a trade the fight always wins.

  5. 5Recall on the Water windup, not the hit

Geyser Gush, Hydro Laser or Aqua Surge starting means an immediate recall of the active carry. Wait out the dangerous portion, redeploy, resume the stream. The recall costs a few seconds of damage; trusting the Defense buff to eat a super-effective cast costs the carry.

  6. 6Swap on the buff timer, not on panic

When a window ends or the active carry drops low, the sequence is fixed: recall, deploy the other Knocklem, activate, rebuild stacks. Swapping early wastes buff seconds, swapping late leaves an unbuffed carry face-tanking, and the 50-second cooldown against the 40-second effect makes clean alternation nearly seamless.

// 08

Fight plan

6 phases

The clock owns this fight: 487,500 HP in five minutes is the whole design. The windows below are cut to the party's own cadence, 40-second Iron Guardian windows against 50-second cooldowns, alternating carries so a buffed Knocklem is out for nearly the entire run. Two pace checkpoints tell you whether to keep looping or start spending.

  1. 1
    0:00 to 0:30Delete the escort

Hold both Knocklems. Put a rocket or a guided volley into the grouped adds the moment the arena loads, drop the Feybreak Berserker first because its explosives are the disruptive weapon, then finish both Warriors. Every second an escort survives degrades your aim, your dodges and your drone uptime at once.

All three adds are dead and no Knocklem has touched the field.

  2. 2
0:30 to 1:10First Iron Guardian window

Deploy Knocklem 1 inside Flame Wall and Flame Funnel range, activate Iron Guardian Mode and command Attack That Enemy on Bastigor. Drone Launcher out immediately: Orserk stacks build one per bullet hit and die five seconds after the last, so the stream starts now and does not stop.

  3. 3
    1:10 to 2:00First swap

The buff expires about 40 seconds after activation. Recall Knocklem 1, deploy Knocklem 2, activate its own Iron Guardian Mode and rebuild stacks with the drones. If a Water cast begins mid-swap, hold the redeploy until the water resolves: an unbuffed carry eating a super-effective opener is how swaps go wrong.

By 2:00 roughly two fifths of the bar is gone, about 195,000 dealt. That is the pace the timer demands.

  4. 4
    2:00 to 3:30The alternating loop

Settle into the cycle: alternate 40-second windows between the two carries, recall for every Geyser Gush, Hydro Laser and Aqua Surge, and never redeploy into marked ice. Shoot Bjorn between drone refreshes, and spend Advanced Recovery Meds early rather than at critical health.

At 3:00 the bar sits at or below two fifths remaining, roughly 195,000 HP. Behind that, tighten stack uptime before changing anything else.

  5. 5
    3:30 to 4:30Hold the discipline

This stretch is where recall discipline dies: players behind pace start letting the carry tank Water casts to save swap seconds, and lose the carry instead. Keep the loop honest, keep bullets connecting, and grapple out of Aqua Surge rings instead of sprinting on drained stamina.

  6. 6
    4:30 to 5:00Spend everything

Nothing carries over. Fire the remaining rockets between casts, run both carries' windows back to back, and accept the risk of shooting through the smaller Ice zones. A timeout and a wipe cost the same run, so in the final thirty seconds the only real mistake is holding a resource.

// 09

Attacks and counterplay

10 attacks

Nine catalog attacks, grouped by what you must do rather than by what they look like: three Water casts force a recall, four Ice zones force your feet to move and your redeploys to wait, and the close-range pressure moves punish standing still. Power and cooldown render from the catalog beside each entry, so the text below spends its words on your hands.

Recall triggers

The three Water attacks are super effective against Knocklem Ignis and are the fight's designed answer to a Fire party. Every one is a recall, never a face-tank.

  • Geyser GushWaterPower 60030s cooldown

Pillars erupt beneath and around the target. Recall the active Knocklem the moment the cast starts, sidestep the marked ground yourself, and redeploy only after the last pillar fires.

  • Hydro LaserWaterPower 45020s cooldown

A pressurized beam sweeping the frontal arc. Recall, then move around Bastigor's flank instead of backing away: the sweep owns the front, and the flank keeps your drones in range.

  • Aqua SurgeWaterPower 50024s cooldown

Waves converge from all sides and detonate at the center. Recall, then sprint or grapple out of the ring before it closes. This is the worst cast to redeploy into, because the detonation lands wherever the target stood.

Ground checks

The big Ice zones rarely kill the player outright. They kill recalled Knocklems that get redeployed into damage that is still resolving.

  • Glacial ImpactIcePower 65030s cooldown

Bastigor leaps, plants both arms and charges a widening ice crack into a final explosion. Leave the crack line immediately and hold any redeploy until the detonation resolves.

  • Diamond RainIcePower 60030s cooldown

Consecutive ice lumps dropped on the target's head. Keep moving through the entire duration rather than dodging once: the drops follow position, not your first roll.

  • Double Blizzard SpikeIcePower 70030s cooldown

Two huge ice blocks fired in sequence, each with splash on impact. Dodge the blocks separately, and do not drift back toward the first impact point while the second is still in the air.

  • Absolute FrostIcePower 70030s cooldown

Icicles erupt across a wide area under the target's feet. Sprint clear of the marked ground: the area is wide enough that distance beats invincibility frames.

Position pressure

The small, frequent moves. Neither ends a run on its own; both end runs by landing while you are mid-swap or lining up a shot.

  • Frost TalonIcePower 30016s cooldown

A stomped ice fissure, then a fast gap-close and slash along its line. Never idle directly in front of Bastigor, and if the fissure appears under you, dodge sideways off the line rather than backward along it.

  • Spirit FlameDarkPower 20012s cooldown

Three Dark projectiles with relentless tracking. Keep moving after the first dodge or break the tracking around arena cover. Stopping to aim at Bjorn is how these land.

  • Feybreak Berserker explosives

Only alive for the opening, but its explosive fire is the most disruptive pressure of the first thirty seconds. It is the kill-first target of the entire encounter.

What this build turns down

3 considered

Two comps and one skill swap come up in every discussion of this fight. All three are real options, and none of them is the easiest consistent clear.

Wixen plus Gobfin player rush

The case for it
Wixen's activated skill converts your attacks to Fire and raises your Attack (30% in the shipped description; it has no rank curve in our data), and each Gobfin adds 10% to 20% player Attack, stacking per copy. With endgame weapons the player deletes the boss faster than any pal rotation.

Faster when it works. It demands stronger weapons, sustained aim at a moving rider, and dodging clean enough that you never stop shooting, with all nine attacks now pointed at you. Two 135-Defense carries make the same clear survivable for ordinary aim, which is what a counter guide should promise.

Kelpsea Ignis over Finsider Ignis

The case for it
The common safe-team pick: 15% to 30% Attack to every Fire pal in the party, tested and widely recommended.

Iron Guardian Mode and Orserk already pile large bonuses onto the carry's Attack stat, so another Attack percentage should be worth less at the margin than Finsider Ignis's 25% to 40% on the separate weakness axis. That is an inference from the skill descriptions, not a controlled damage test, which is why Kelpsea Ignis stays listed as the drop-in alternate.

Flame Cutter over the tested trio

The case for it
Flame Cutter is Knocklem Ignis's exclusive move and the biggest number on its learnset at 700 power, against Fire Ball's 600.

Displayed power is not landed damage. The ring flies a circular trajectory, and the tested trio of Flame Wall, Flame Funnel and Fire Ball connects more dependably through Bastigor's constant movement and awkward hitbox. Run the skills that hit.

Where to get everything

6 stops

Nothing here is rare except the mutation passive. The build is mostly a condensing project plus one shopping trip.

  1. Catch or breed two Knocklem IgnisYou need two real copies, not one shared slot. Both run the same passives and the same skill bar, so a breeding pair that throws Serenity, Flame Emperor and Diamond Body supplies both carries from one line.Knocklem Ignis guide
  2. Condense the supports to rank 5The support numbers on this page are rank 5 values: Orserk's per-hit stack grows from 1% to 5%, Finsider Ignis's weakness bonus from 25% to 40%, Silvegis's shield cut from 65% to 80%. At rank 1 you field the same party at roughly half strength.
  3. Condense both Knocklems tooThe one number this page cannot verify lives here: community rank tables report 210% Attack and Defense at rank 5, against the 60% shipped description our data holds. Condense them anyway. The rotation already works at the verified baseline, and rank 5 is where any real scaling would pay out.
  4. Buy the player implantsVanguard and Stronghold Strategist come from a bounty officer for bounty tokens, bought once and then applied to any pal for gold. The purple wanted markers on your map are the token farm; higher-level targets pay more.
  5. Craft the arsenalAdvanced Recovery Meds and Revival Potions unlock at technology 61, the Rocket Launcher at 65, the Drone Launcher at 77 and the Plasma Rifle at 78. The Multi Guided Missile Launcher is schematic-locked, so it is a recycler pull rather than a tech unlock.
  6. Cook Mammorest CurryOne Mammorest Meat plus onion, carrot, potato and Red Berries per plate. A short Mammorest farming loop supplies a stack of pre-fight attack buffs alongside the meat for other recipes.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does Iron Guardian Mode give 210% Attack and Defense at rank 5?

Not in anything we can verify. Our committed dataset holds the shipped description, 60% Attack and 60% Defense for 40 seconds on a 50-second cooldown, and no rank curve for any activated partner skill. Community rank tables report 210% at rank 5, and we cannot confirm that figure. The double-carry strategy works at the verified numbers; rank 5 is potential upside.

How much HP does hard mode Bjorn and Bastigor have?

487,500 at level 80, behind a five-minute timer, with two Feybreak Warriors and a Feybreak Berserker joining at the start. Guides quoting roughly 509,000 HP or a ten-minute limit are describing the pre-1.0 tower: the 1.0 rebalance replaced the ten-minute timer, and the HP figure changed with it. Discard the old numbers.

Why does my Knocklem Ignis keep dying to an Ice boss?

Because hard mode Bastigor carries three Water attacks, Geyser Gush, Hydro Laser and Aqua Surge, and Water hits Fire super effectively. The fix is procedural: recall the active Knocklem the moment a Water cast starts, wait out the dangerous portion, redeploy. Iron Guardian Mode's Defense does not make a super-effective cast safe, and face-tanking one is the most common way this run ends.

Should I shoot Bastigor or Bjorn?

Bjorn, when it is safe to aim. The rider is the practical weak point and rewards player damage better than firing into Bastigor's body. But your first shooting job is stack maintenance: Orserk stacks die five seconds after your last bullet lands, so a steady drone or rifle stream on any part of the boss beats an occasional perfect shot at Bjorn.

Do two Knocklem Ignis stack Iron Guardian Mode?

No, and stacking is not why the second copy is here. Only one pal fights at a time, so the second Knocklem buys a second 40-second buff window while the first cooldown runs, a fresh health pool after a Water mistake, and recovery time for its partner. The rotation is the payoff, not a stack.
