Lapure keeps Steel Guardian Mode running permanently while Poison does the rest.
The forgiving build in the library, and the one whose engine is easiest to miss. Knocklem Steel Guardian Mode raises its own Attack and Defense by 50% at rank 1, running 40 seconds against a 50-second cooldown. Lapure at rank 5 cuts partner skill cooldowns by 50%, which takes that cooldown to 25 seconds and makes the buff permanent rather than something you time. Around that, Poison does triple duty: Prixter adds 50% to 65% damage against poisoned enemies for both you and your pals, Bakemi cuts a poisoned enemy Attack by 40% to 80% whenever you hit it, and the poison itself ticks for around 8% of a boss maximum health over 17 seconds while blocking its passive regeneration. Poison is also the only status in Palworld 1.0 that coexists with other statuses, so none of this competes with anything else you bring.
Activated: Steel Guardian Mode raises Knocklem Attack and Defense for 40 seconds on a 50-second cooldown. It already has the best Defense in the party at 135 and the innate Heavyweight passive for another 20% and knockback immunity.
Activated partner skills carry no rank curve in the 1.0 export, so the buff does not appear in the scaling table below. The shipped description states 50%; community rank tables put it at 200% fully condensed, which our data files cannot confirm either way.

TipThe short version
Apply Poison first, because two of your five slots do nothing until it is on the target. Activate Steel Guardian Mode and leave Knocklem out: with Lapure fully condensed the 50-second cooldown drops to 25 against a 40-second effect, so it never expires. Keep attacking the poisoned target yourself, because Bakemi attack cut only triggers on your hits, and reapply Poison every 17 seconds.

Passives to implant
3 core · 5 total
This is the one build in the library where the pal-side passives matter more than the player implants, because Knocklem is doing the damage and you are mostly applying debuffs. Get the Ground element passive onto Knocklem before you worry about anything else.
Earth Emperor
All five slots
Rank 3 · No roll pool
30% increase in Earth attack damage.
Worth 30% more Ground damage to the pal carrying it. Knocklem entire kit is Ground, so this is the largest single damage passive available to it, and it multiplies with Dumud party buff and Steel Guardian Mode rather than overlapping them.
How to get it
Rolls on wild Ground pals and breeds down normally. Catch Ground pals until one carries it, then breed it across or move it with an implant.
Diamond Body
All five slots
Rank 4 · Standard pool
Defense +30% Immune to Flinch Immune to Knockback
Defense +30% plus immunity to flinch and knockback. Knocklem already ships with the weaker Heavyweight version, so this is a straight upgrade to the same slot and it lets the tank finish its attack animations under pressure.
How to get it
Rolls on wild catches and breeds normally.
Vanguard
All five slots
Rank 3 · Standard pool
10% increase in Player Attack.
Still worth all five slots. Bakemi attack cut only fires on your hits and Prixter bonus applies to your damage too, so you are not a passenger in this build even though the pal is the carry.

Bought once from a bounty officer for bounty tokens, then applied to any pal for gold. Bounty tokens come from the purple wanted markers on your map.

14 picks
Split your accessories the way you split your damage. Knocklem is doing most of the killing, so the Pal Only Equip accessories are worth more here than in any other build on the site. Materials shown are the first craftable tier.
Skills for Knocklem
Knocklem native bar is entirely Ground, which is good damage but leaves the party with no way to apply the status that two other slots depend on. Skill fruits work on any pal regardless of element, so the fix is a single fruit.
The cleanest fix in the build. Feeding this to Knocklem lets the tank apply Poison itself without ever leaving the field, which means Prixter can carry damage moves instead. Its 30 power is irrelevant; the status is the point.
Poison Shower at 160 power scatters poison orbs in all directions, so it applies the status to a group rather than one target. Better on add waves, worse as a single-target opener.
Use on a Pal to teach Poison Shower.
Main damage
Rocky Impact (Ground, 600 power)
Knocklem strongest native move, learned at level 70. Keep it and Sand Twister as the damage half of the bar.
Filler
Sand Twister (Ground, 500 power)
Learned at level 50. A shorter cooldown than Rocky Impact, so it fills the gaps rather than competing with it.
Accessories for the pal
All four carry Pal Only Equip effects, so they buff Knocklem and nothing else. This is the default set for this build, unlike the trainer-damage pages where these slots are wasted.
Attack Up Lv. 4 for you at 20% and 16% for Knocklem. One of the few accessories that pays both halves of a split-damage build.

Stat point priority
Highest priority first
The least attack-skewed ordering in the library, because Knocklem is the carry and your stat points do not touch it. Spend where your actual job is: staying alive and keeping the debuffs applied.
1HealthFirst, unusually. Your damage matters less here than your uptime, and every second you spend downed is a second Bakemi attack cut is not applied.
2AttackSecond. It still matters, because Prixter 65% applies to your damage and Bakemi triggers on your hits, but it is not the engine.
3StaminaThird. You are dodging and repositioning rather than pushing damage windows.
4Weight and work speedLast. Neither does anything in a boss fight.
// 06
How to play it
6 steps
Two of your five slots are switched off until Poison is on the target, and the build has no passive way to apply it. Step one is not optional.
1Solve the Poison problem before the fight
No partner skill in Palworld 1.0 applies Poison passively. Either keep Poison Blast on Prixter bar, which it learns natively at level 1, or feed Knocklem the Dark Skill Fruit version so the tank applies it without leaving the field. Skill fruits work on any pal regardless of element, which makes the second option strictly more convenient.
2Apply Poison, then activate Steel Guardian Mode
Poison first, because Prixter 65% and Bakemi attack cut both need it up before they do anything. Then press Knocklem and settle in.
3Leave Knocklem out and let the cooldown loop
With Lapure at rank 5 the cooldown is 25 seconds against a 40-second effect, so Steel Guardian Mode is permanently up. There is no window to time and no reason to swap the tank out. If Lapure is not condensed yet, the buff runs 40 seconds on 50 and you do have gaps.
4Keep shooting the poisoned target yourself
Bakemi is worded as your hits, not your pals: attacking a poisoned enemy is what cuts its attack by 40% to 80%. If you stop firing and watch Knocklem fight, the largest piece of mitigation in the build quietly stops applying.
5Reapply Poison every 17 seconds
Poison runs 17 seconds and ticks for roughly 8% of a boss maximum health across that window, while blocking its passive regeneration. It is also the only status that coexists with others, so you never have to choose between it and anything else you are applying.
6Rotate to Prixter only when you have to
If Prixter is your Poison source, swapping it in costs you the Knocklem buff uptime on the field even though the partner effects keep working from the party slot. That swap is the whole reason to prefer the skill fruit on Knocklem.

What this build turns down
4 considered
This lineup came from a Reddit comment and survived research intact, which is not true of most of the builds on this site. What follows is the reasoning behind the slots people question and the upgrades that get suggested.
Two Knocklems to chain Steel Guardian Mode
The case for it Running a second Knocklem lets you alternate activations so one buff is always live, which is a commonly recommended Ground-team trick.
It solves a problem Lapure already solves for free, and it costs a slot that is currently paying 50% to 65% or 40% to 80%. It would also switch off Solenne if you ever swapped it in, since that requires five different species. Use Lapure.
Dropping Bakemi because the attack cut sounds situational
The case for it Bakemi contributes no damage at all and its effect only works while the target is poisoned, which the party struggles to guarantee.
At rank 5 it cuts an enemy Attack by 80%, which is the single largest mitigation number of any partner skill in the game and the actual reason this build is forgiving. Once Poison uptime is solved it is close to always on. The mistake is not running it, it is failing to keep Poison applied.
Swapping Dumud for a trainer-damage pal
The case for it Dumud only buffs Ground pals, while Solenne would give you 30% to 80% player attack for a condition this party already meets.
A fair swap with a clear meaning: it turns this into a trainer-damage build with a tank, rather than a pal-damage build. Dumud 30% goes to Knocklem, Prixter and itself, which is the pal actually doing the killing. Take Solenne if you would rather do the damage yourself, and expect the fight to get less forgiving.
Adding a second status on top of Poison
The case for it Blind from Venusa or Soak from Ophydia would layer another debuff onto a target that is already poisoned.
Poison is the only status in 1.0 that coexists with others, so a second applier does work alongside it, but the two appliers then compete with each other: Blind and Soak are mutually exclusive. You get one non-Poison status at a time, and spending a slot to add it means dropping one of the four that are currently paying every second.

Where to get everything
6 stops
The most accessible party in the library. Every member is breedable, none is a legendary, and the only real project is condensing Lapure, which is what makes the build work.
Catch or breed the five palsEvery recruitment route is on the role cards above, pulled from the mapped spawn tables. All five are breedable, so a missing species is a breeding project rather than a wall.
Condense Lapure to rank 5 firstThis is the priority, not Knocklem. Lapure goes from 10% cooldown reduction at rank 1 to 50% at rank 5, and only the rank 5 value brings Knocklem 50-second cooldown under its 40-second effect. Every other rank leaves gaps in the buff.
Condense the other four to rank 5The remaining headline numbers are all rank 5 values: 65% from Prixter, 80% from Bakemi, 30% from Dumud. At rank 1 the same party gives roughly half.
Get a Poison move onto the fieldPrixter already knows Poison Blast at level 1. If you would rather Knocklem carry it, the Dark Skill Fruit version is the item to hunt, and skill fruits can be fed to any pal regardless of element.Dark Skill Fruit: Poison Blast
Farm Earth Emperor onto KnocklemThe 30% Ground damage passive is the largest single upgrade available to the carry. Catch wild Ground pals until one rolls it, then breed it across or move it with an implant.
Craft the Ground accessory setEarth Emperor Baton and Anubis Talisman are the two that matter, and both are also guaranteed Ancient Shrine rewards, so check the map before spending materials.Earth Emperor Baton sources

Alternates and flex picks
4 viable swaps
Keep the build's identity while adapting the lineup to the pals you own or the encounter ahead.
Nothing in the party slots, which is the trap. No partner skill in Palworld 1.0 applies Poison passively, so it has to come from an active skill. Prixter learns Poison Blast natively at level 1, so the simplest answer is to keep that move on its bar. The better answer is to feed Knocklem the Dark Skill Fruit version, because skill fruits work on any pal regardless of element and the tank never has to leave the field.
Why is Lapure in a poison build?
Because it makes Knocklem buff permanent. Steel Guardian Mode runs 40 seconds on a 50-second cooldown, so roughly four fifths uptime on its own. Lapure at rank 5 cuts partner skill cooldowns by 50%, bringing that to 25 seconds against a 40-second effect. The buff stops being something you time and becomes something that is simply always on. Condense Lapure before you condense anything else.
How strong is Steel Guardian Mode when fully condensed?
The shipped skill description says 50% Attack and 50% Defense, and community rank tables put the rank 5 value at 200%. Our own 1.0 export does not record a rank curve for activated partner skills at all, so we cannot confirm the higher figure from the data the way we can confirm every number in the scaling table. Treat 50% as the floor and expect meaningfully more at rank 5.
Does Bakemi work when my pal attacks, or only when I do?
Only when you do. The effect is worded as the player attacking an enemy afflicted with Poison, and it targets the trainer. If you stop shooting and let Knocklem fight alone, an 80% enemy attack reduction quietly stops applying. Keeping a weapon on the boss is the price of the build being forgiving.
Why does Poison work when other statuses conflict?
Poison is the only status effect in Palworld 1.0 that coexists with other statuses. Everything else, Soak, Electrify, Muddy, Burn, Freeze, Blind and Stun, replaces whatever was already there. That is what makes Poison builds structurally more reliable than the Soak or Muddy equivalents: nothing you do can accidentally overwrite it, and no pal type is immune to it.
Kikit or Dumud in the fourth slot?
Both buff every Ground pal in the party, which here is Knocklem, Prixter and themselves. Dumud gives 15% to 30% Attack and Kikit gives the same range in Defense. Run Dumud by default, because Steel Guardian Mode and Heavyweight already handle survivability, and switch to Kikit only if Knocklem is still dying with its buff up.
What makes this different from the Poison Barrier build?
Poison Barrier is a trainer-damage party that uses Dandilord activated skill for its Poison and spends slots on shield mitigation and life steal. This one is a pal-damage party: Knocklem does the killing, Dumud buffs it, and your job is applying Bakemi attack cut and keeping Poison up. Kills are slower and the loop is much harder to lose.
