Turn Skutlass Ignis into a katana and pack its ten-second life span with faster, harder melee hits.
The exact screenshot party is Skutlass Ignis, Pupperai, Loupmoon Cryst, Warsect Terra and Solenne. Skutlass becomes a 2,900-to-4,200-Attack katana for ten seconds, Pupperai raises melee weapon damage, Loupmoon Cryst raises melee attack speed, and Solenne rewards the all-unique party. Warsect Terra adds a barrier after five fast hits. The Reddit author openly described Skutlass and Warsect as the fun choices rather than the mathematically strongest ones, so the guide preserves that identity and lists the optimized swaps separately.
Every slot has a job. The cards below show the exact synergy, its rank range, who it affects, and a mapped route to recruiting that pal.

Raises trainer melee weapon attack speed by 15% to 30%, helping fill the katana window.

Generates a 5% to 9% barrier after five melee hits land within the required window.

Raises trainer Attack by 30% to 80% because all five party species are different.
Catch it in the wild. Only spawns on the World Tree region.
Activate Skutlass Ignis only when you are already in range, then use Pupperai, Loupmoon Cryst and Solenne to make the short katana window hit harder and faster. Land five quick melee hits to trigger Warsect Terra's barrier. Before ten seconds expires, switch to another held item (the community uses a quick Pal Sphere hold-and-cancel) to force the reversion, and avoid Iaigiri unless you accept the incapacitation.
Compare every surfaced partner effect at base rank and full condensation. Effects marked Unique can still scale by rank, but a second carrier of the same species adds nothing. Two different species carrying the same effect do add together.

Melee is the highest-risk way to fight in Palworld, so this is one of the few builds where the defensive implant is not optional. Everything else points at attack, which the katana damage is calculated from.
10% increase in Player Attack.
Solenne and Pupperai are both multipliers on your attack, and the katana damage scales with it too. Put it on all five slots.
50% player attack across five carriers
Bought once from a bounty officer for bounty tokens, then applied to any pal for gold. Bounty tokens come from the purple wanted markers on your map.
10% increase in Player Defense.
Not optional here. The katana window forces you into contact range for ten seconds at a time, with only a 5% to 9% barrier for protection.
50% player defense across five carriers
Same bounty officer, same one-time purchase. Buy both on the first trip.
Absorbs 100% of damage dealt and restores Health. Pal Auto Health Regeneration Rate +100%. Attack +15%.
Life Steal +5% and Attack +15%. Life steal suits melee better than any other playstyle, because you are landing many fast hits at close range.
Mutation-pool only. Breed for it across several breeding bases, or pull the implant from the ancient relic recycler.
Pal and Player Auto Health Regeneration Rate +50% Defense +25% Immune to Poison Damage Immune to Burn Damage
Defense, regeneration and immunity to poison and burn. The general survivability answer once the two core implants are placed.
Defense and regeneration on every carrier, immunities do not need stacking
Mutation-pool only, same routes as Immortality.
Skutlass Ignis is the weapon for ten seconds at a time, so you also need something to hold for the other fifty. Pupperai bonus covers melee weapons generally, so the fallback is not a downgrade in support.
The katana is a temporary state, not a permanent weapon. Carry a real melee weapon for the windows between activations, and remember Pupperai 35% applies to both.
The party defining mechanic. Ten seconds of a very high-attack katana on a ten-second cooldown, so it is available again almost immediately if you revert it cleanly.
Pupperai 10% to 35% and both Loupmoon attack-speed bonuses apply to any melee weapon, so the support package is not idle while Skutlass is sheathed.
The community workaround for forcing the katana to sheath before its timer expires. Any held-item swap works; the sphere is simply always in your inventory.
Not part of the combo, but melee builds need an answer to phases where approaching is fatal. Nothing in this party buffs it.
An assault rifle made from Soralite Ingots. It has been enhanced to handle powerful ammo while maintaining its versatility.
The most defensive accessory set of any damage build on the site, because melee range and a ten-second commitment window do not forgive mistakes.
Attack Up Lv. 4, worth 20% attack. The katana damage scales from your attack, so this raises it too.
An accessory that greatly raises your Attack, and that of the Pal fighting alongside you.
Extends roll and sidestep invincibility by 20%. Worth more here than in any ranged build, because closing to melee means eating telegraphs you cannot outrange.
An accessory that extends the invincibility period of rolls and sidesteps.
Defense Up Lv. 4 and Health Up Lv. 4, so 25% defense and 25% health from one slot.
An accessory that greatly raises Defense and Health.
Attack Up Lv. 3 for another 15%. Swap it for the Silvegis Emblem if you are dying more than you are killing.
An accessory that raises Attack.
The one damage build where a defense roll is genuinely arguable, because the barrier is small and the commitment window is fixed.
Rarity beats the roll. Attack if you are comfortable, defense if the ten-second window keeps getting you killed.
Warsect Terra barrier is 5% to 9%, which is small. The shield underneath it is doing most of the work.
Worth 20% attack. Attack and defense food replace each other.
Now with cheese, this dish has reached the highest level of fine cuisine. Eating it will increase Attack by +20% and stay full longer for a period of time.
Craft one before committing to a stat spread.
A potion that allows the player to reset their status points when consumed. It has no effect if consumed by a Pal.
Health first is defensible here and attack first is defensible too. The ordering below assumes you want to actually survive the ten-second windows rather than trade your life for them.
This is the most timing-dependent party in the library. The katana has a hard ten-second life and two separate ways to punish you for mishandling it.
The ten-second timer starts on activation, not on your first swing. Spending three of those seconds walking toward the boss throws away a third of the window.
That is Warsect Terra trigger, and it generates a barrier worth 5% to 9%. The attack-speed bonuses are what make five hits in five seconds achievable, which is why they are not a luxury slot.
If the katana times out, Skutlass Ignis is incapacitated. The community workaround is to briefly pull out a Pal Sphere and cancel, which forces the reversion. Any held-item swap does the same thing.
The shipped skill description is explicit: using Iaigiri incapacitates Skutlass Ignis, exactly as letting the timer run out does. This is the single most expensive mistake available in the build.
Skutlass runs a ten-second effect on a ten-second cooldown, so a clean revert means the katana is available again almost immediately. The limiting factor is your discipline, not the cooldown.
Pupperai melee damage and both attack-speed bonuses apply to any melee weapon, so a conventional weapon in the off-window still benefits from three of your five slots.
The original author was candid that this is the fun build rather than the optimal one. That framing is preserved here, and the optimisations are set out so you can choose deliberately.
The case for it
Loupmoon and Loupmoon Cryst carry the identical 15% to 30% melee attack-speed effect, and because they are different species the bonuses add rather than the larger one winning. Two slots buys 60%.
Completely real, and the same rule that lets the Unkillable Solo Carry stack two Vanwyrm forms for 90% weak point. It also keeps Solenne alive, since the two Loupmoons are different species. What it costs is a slot, and 60% attack speed on a ten-second window is worth less than Solenne 80% attack on everything. Take it if you drop Warsect Terra rather than Solenne.
The case for it
Bushi Noct carries 30% to 65% melee weapon damage against Pupperai 10% to 35%. It is the single largest equipped-weapon bonus in the game.
Its shipped description reads "increases the player melee weapon damage by 30% but only when not in combat", which if taken literally makes it useless in exactly the situation you want it. Our export records that wording and nothing that explains it, so we will not recommend building around it. Test it on a dummy first.
The case for it
A conventional melee weapon has no ten-second timer, no incapacitation risk and no reversion trick to learn.
That is the stronger build and the original author said so. What you lose is the reason the party exists: a 2,900 to 4,200 attack weapon that no crafting tier can match. This guide keeps the living-katana identity and lists the safer version here rather than quietly substituting it.
The case for it
A barrier generated from landing hits sounds like the melee equivalent of Silvegis shield reduction.
It is 5% to 9%, and it needs five melee hits inside five seconds to appear at all. Silvegis cuts 65% to 80% of shield damage unconditionally. Warsect Terra is a small bonus for playing aggressively, not a defensive slot, and the guide will not present it as one.
Skutlass Ignis is the only unusual acquisition here. The rest of the party is ordinary catching and breeding.
Keep the build's identity while adapting the lineup to the pals you own or the encounter ahead.
Revert it before the ten-second weapon timer ends and never use Iaigiri. The community workaround is to briefly pull out a Pal Sphere and cancel, or otherwise switch held equipment, which forces the katana to sheath in time. Both the timeout and Iaigiri incapacitate it, and the shipped skill description says so explicitly.
No, and the original author said so first. They called Skutlass and Warsect the fun slots rather than the mathematically strongest, and suggested a conventional Loupmoon and Gobfin version instead. This guide keeps the living-katana identity and sets out every optimisation separately so the trade is yours to make.
Yes. They carry the identical melee attack-speed effect and they are different species, so the two bonuses add rather than the higher one winning: 60% at full condensation. That is the same rule that lets the Unkillable Solo Carry run two Vanwyrm forms for 90% weak-point damage. It also does not break Solenne, because different forms count as different species.
Probably not, and we will not recommend it. Bushi Noct carries 30% to 65% melee weapon damage, nearly double Pupperai, but its shipped description adds "but only when not in combat". Taken literally that makes it worthless in a fight. Our data files record that wording and nothing that explains it, so treat it as something to test on a dummy rather than build around.
Small. It is 5% at rank 1 and 9% at rank 5, and it only appears after five melee hits land within five seconds. It rewards aggression rather than providing meaningful mitigation. If survivability is the problem, Silvegis 65% to 80% shield damage reduction is a different order of magnitude.
Fight with a conventional melee weapon. Pupperai damage bonus and both Loupmoon attack-speed bonuses apply to any melee weapon, so three of your five slots keep working while Skutlass is sheathed. The cooldown is only ten seconds, so the gap is short.
